heheh look what i did with devilspie



I'm still trying to get arlick's window to become a little transparent, anyone have any ideas?

If you use KDE3 or KDE4 you do not need devilspie.
Kwin (KDE Window Manager) got all the features of devilspie built-in

Just right click a window, Advanced, and you got plenty of options there.
Also you can set special rules for each windo by clicking "Special window rules" in the same menu.

Yeah it's pretty easy. Znurre might be right, I think KDE doesn't need devilspie, but if you still want to use it, here's a small how-to I wrote a while ago, it has some links with tutorials for devilspie:

and here's the rule-file i created for ROL_MAP:

The opacity line doesnt work so far, I'll try to find a way to make it transparent. Maybe you can modify your program to have a transparency configuration available to the user?

thanks!! i find it, but i cant do it transparent by now :S... ill be trying it :P

(i saw the option to make it transparent, but i think it dont work, or i dont know how do it work)

You need Compositing enabled in xorg.conf in order for it to work.
Also, if you choose to make it transparent whole window will get transparent = background and text :/

I think the best would be if you could edit some code in your java source to make the main widget transparent, but I don't know if that is possible with the java toolkit.

I tried using a composite manager to get transparency working, but I couldnt :/ I installed xcompmgr and transset, and edited my xorg.conf as described here, but I still couldn't get transparency, I don't know with what parameters xcompmgr needs to be started....

relax arlick, i did it finally!

I had to use

xcompmgr -n & killall gnome-panel

on session startup to get it to work, but now it's looking gooooood ))
