Science changes its views based on whats observed. Religion is the denial of observation so that belief can be preserved. Religion by definition survives on faith. Science doesn't require faith. I know that there are religious scientists out there, that they find some comfort in falling back on religion or that they feel that figuring out how the universe works is just figuring out how god created it and so forth. And if that works for them then ok I don't try to sway people from faith, infact in some ways I envy their faith, who wouldn't like to think that upon death I can chill with my mates by a milkshake pool on a bisexual cloud? I just like sharing ideas and knowledge But no, personally I wouldn't hold Science in the same category as Hinduism or Christianity

In its base, Science assumes the belief that the complexity of nature can be correctly and fully comprehended by the Human Mind. Science requires faith because it works from basic principles that we think we observe. If I asked you to prove why 1+1=2, what would you do? If I asked you to explain what 1 means? This is just simple arithmetic, and yet, where does it come from? When you read the above, you probably think I'm an idiot, or make this argument for the sake of it. Do you see the problem? The prevalence and "correctness" of mathematics has been drilled into your head so hard that you find the very idea of refuting it ridiculous. It's the same with God, no? If I asked you to explain what stands behind mathematics, you would be completely incapable of providing a convincing explanation. "It's all in the Mind." Everything you do, everything you say, everything you see, everything you think of, all of it is perception. It's your mind that does everything, that creates the world around you. The world is out there, but your understanding of it through your thoughts and senses is just your perception of that world. In the same way, Science as it is now is just perception. The reason we univocally accept it is only because the way in which we perceive it (mathematics) has been established ever since its "discovery" - ever since it was perceived - and it is the same for everyone, a "universal language" as much as seeing or hearing is. If you met a grown up who had never heard of mathematics before, do you think you would be able to make him see the same truth that you see behind it? It is no more based on truth than anything else. In fact, what is truth? I could do this all day... |

Interesting From the off I'm going to wash off my hands and say I'm out This level of thinking is to complex, to unexplainable, and to much effort for this time of night when I'm also casually chatting on facebook and eating cake
But this is how I think anyway To me, math is a tool. Like letters, language, spoons. I wouldn't class any of those as a belief system because I don't worship the number 7 (worship is reserved for 42 only of course) nor do I think that numbers created a world, or lay down rules on how to live. Its just a simple system we developed to express our ideas. It has been said that Science is how we're trained to look at the world, I can accept that since there is no better explanation. It has been said that we are vain to think we can ever comprehend the universe, I can accept that too, but theres no reason we shouldn't try, and we've found out some awesome things in the process of trying Anyway, I'm done

Let's see what happens in the future. Also, don't worry about what people say. This is the inn and we can post as we please. If they don't like it they don't have to click it. Some people are exactly like those that died on the titanic refusing to accept that the ship was sinking or was sinkable. Personally I am interested in finding truth in all areas of this so called life, so keep on finding and posting for the people! Quote:

Fail. Learn to read.
Over large distances, teleportation violates... 10 miles = pitiful distance in scientific terms Even if it is true ( I watched like 10 seconds before I burst out laughing ) then it still is possible theoretically, so what's the big deal I was wondering how come this thread escaped you. I was thinking that hopefully you realised that the science here is way above your trolling level. Guess I was wrong. |
