"Holas" derives from the word "hola", meaning "hello" in spanish. Now, what does that "S" mean?
What does a simple letter like that represent? "S" brings a world of infinite possibilities, of joy. It's saying "Hey, I use cliche salutes, but I add a twist". "S" Allows one to transform singular into plural, we don't salute you, we salute the world and all it's magnificence. We add an "S" to make that hello a symbol. When all our brothers lie in the ground, when all hope seems lost, when our mortal wounds make it hard for us to make our last stand... then we shall look at our enemies eyes, and with a wonderful and frightening smile we will say... "Holas!" And, yes... I am drunk. Weeeeeeeeeee moar komix!

A typo. "A" and "S" are next to each other.

Hola is like hello, so Holas would be like "helloes". :P
Anyway, people use it as something normal or accepted (though the RAE says it's not a real word). Also, some girls say "holis", which may also stem from a typo.

typo?
Cannot be, I've heard it from before the internet Xeph. At least I so remember. I had 2 ideas. 1) It derives from the use of "buenas". 2) It started as a way to salute a group of people. (Again, could be linked to "buenas") "Holas gente!"

"Holas" comes from chats and irc rooms, where one used to say "hola" one by one. So "holas a todos" started to be used.
Same for "chaus", or "chausis" (from ciao, chao, chau). Holis is just a diminutive, like "chausis", or "adiosito". Nowadays, it's only cliche salute, like Torg said. PD: I know, because i was there.
