A message for the whole Community
Hi Community,
Since the beginning of the day there were speculations, requests, complaints, greetings, well... everything, as usual. After putting back online both servers (Horus and Ra) the classic repercussions started to take place as in the whole Regnum Online history. As we know, not every change is welcome and maybe one or another is, but I need to make clear that we always read every submitted comment and it doesn't matter from what part of the forum comes... we read both English and Spanish forums as well. Today I read a lot of what normally is redacted in this forums, but I noticed something that almost always takes control of any of us (yes, we are human beings too), liking something sometimes leads us to forget things that aren't less important. It seems that everyone thinks that we don't read or as it has been said around "we don't care a rat's ass about what you think", but I must say that it isn't like that. Our way of developing the game allows you to comment about any feature or detail about the game, and taking those opinions we act under the plans we already have. It's probable that you may confuse the way we use those opinions. The things I said we all forget about is past issues... that passion of running into the same brick wall a thousand times. NGD is taking another way now, which includes a stronger attitude in decisions, but having also some inconvenient in letting go some of the ways that depicted its past. What do I want to say with this?, that you don't need to plasm so much pessimism, fatality and discord in your comments. We like when you criticize us and give a thousand nitpickings to our ideas, because even if this breaks our schemes, they are always appreciated (we need that all seeing eye!). A "Good! I like that" has the same importance as a "This is just not going anywhere". What I think is mistaken in your attitudes is the exaggeration, the constant leaving threatens, being upset through diminishment. As we know which attitudes we must change (we are way aware of them, but it's not easy), I think that all of you should think about this too (as we do everyday). That's why I encourage you to keep on discussing about changes, continue explaining your doubts and exposing your worries, but without "going off at the tangents"... as in this side, we are always willing to read you and find the way to carry out our plans, as long as the final product is of the interest of both parts involved. Remember that no one more than us wants that Regnum gets better and better. Regards,

Kailer,
We've been down this road a million times. The day NGD actually gives the community something they want is the day pigs fly. Thats the reason you get so much pessimism... And that's the reason the general attitude of the community will never change. Because NGD always wants it to be them vs. the community, even if they politely claim otherwise. Because actions speak louder than words, and most of the time, it is very easy to tell that most of NGD's actions these days are somehow revolving around money, even if they wrap it in a golden candy wrapper. This is combined with the fact that most of their changes are completely untested and unwanted. Many of us have been extremely patient and stuck with it through hard times. Others have spent their hard-earned money on a mere game, so that NGD might prosper. So enough with the guilt trips. We will not be nice just because you ask us to, this time you have to do something that is worth it. NGD will no longer get our love simply by default for being a good group of guys. You have to earn it this time. Regards.

The new update makes the single most overpowered subclass build in the game (The barbarian "SC Monkey") much stronger while making all other classes weaker. Meanwhile mages are now so disadvantaged that for them to move around alone would be total suicide. They have no chance at all against hunters now. None.
All the suggestions we put forth for reducing blocks/evades, fixing skills like shield pierce, and nerfing SC were not acted on in any way whatsoever. To most people, the definition for that would be "Ignored". Meanwhile, no one -no one- had complained that the reverse moving speed was too fast, and the idea of slowing it down had already been implemented then reversed and abandoned, yet here we go again. Honestly, it seems like the guys making the decisions at NGD about what direction to take the game are high. People 'over react' and get 'fatalistic' because they care, and they want to make it completely clear that NGD just pissed in their corn flakes with the reverse walk change. I think you're a great moderator, unfortunately i cannot say same about NGD's development team. It seems like they're drunk or something. :-/ |

I'm not asking you to be nice. In fact, I'm not asking anything but "not exaggerating" or "overreacting".
I repeat, we need your criticism. If it was We Vs. The Community, we could switch off this forums, but we don't want that. We now have a Community Manager to enhance the reception of feedback and we are willing to continue doing so.

I don't know why these kinds of things have to turn into all-out battles between us and you, especially when they have happened before, and faced the same reception the last time! That's what sucks the most. I keep hearing this excuse, "This is not how we intended for it to be! It was never meant to be this way!". Why is it so hard for NGD just to accept that maybe the way the game turned out was better than what it was originally intended to be, and brute forcing it to be what the team envisioned might be a mistake? Not one of these changes made under this new process has been regarded as overwhelmingly positive. Please NGD, look at what has happened here. Look at what you are doing. How much is it all worth when you could undo one simple negative change and leave the positive changes? How hard is it to really make the game better beyond just making one decision in our favor? Why does it always take hordes of fans, quitting, pessimism and drama to get anything accomplished? Regards.

It's just that in spanish forum everybody, specially some pt's are always talking about to leave the game. And be honest, it's just to be dramatic. It doesn't help to Regnum in general.

I have many thoughts about this change. I will only say those that affect my class, and those that affect everyone, because I don't know the other classes so well individually.
For every player: This change was "rude" if I may use the word. It was never announced, it wasn't on Amun I think, and you never specified the reasons for it. If it is true that you made this change because archers level too fast and you want them to pay more money by making them level slower, then I am afraid Katiechan is 100% right. This is the worst think you can do to your "friends", the users. If we are still a % friends, and not 100% customers to exploit economically. For my class: I am a marksman. I chose to play a marksman because I like playing from maximum range. When I fight, the enemy naturally is coming towards me. I shoot from 35 meters, they shoot from 30 meters at best, 25 meters usually, and at melee range if it's a warrior. The time needed to close the gap between 35 meters and 25 meters is very short, you can cover that in 1-2 seconds. 10 meters of extra range means nothing. The range bonus the marksman has, means nothing. My main reason for playing a marksman, means nothing. When backpedalling was as it was before, the gap required longer time to cover, range had a meaning. This is a major balance change, and a minor leveling change. I think the recent fatigue update, reduced base xp for mobs and the new gold reward system is enough to generate new income from the leveling process by selling lvl30 scrolls, xp boosters and repair hammers. Archers who have to buy arrows are still gonna bleed gold until they go broke. There have been many comments on how this affects the balance of other classes too. There is a difference between "role" and "balance" though. For marksmen, it might not affect "balance" so much, but it affects our "role" (range). Please consider this change on marksmen, and read what all the seasoned players are saying about balance. The sheer volume of comments and the mass exodus of lvl50 players in only 6(!) hours since the update is a unique phenomenon for me. If community driven development is still of any meaning for NGD, I'd consider this a big hint. I'm gonna miss my marksman being a proper marksman if this change persists.

Miraculix has it right here.
I realy think you changed this to slow down leveling prozess of ranged classes. Slower leveling prozess means more income for NGD. I can understand that you need the money. But slowing down backwards move influences PvP/RvR much more than it influences the grinding prozess. Nobody cares about fatique or reduced xp from mobs when he is in a fort war. But everybody cares when he is raped by others because he was not able to move back fast enough. This change took an important part of gameplay. Movements in battles will totally change because of it. You said kiting was never planned to be a feature in the game. But you remove this feature after more than a year after beta stage. You cannot change the rules when you already play a game unless all (or at least the most) players agree to do so. I can understand that you are a company and that you have to "sell" your product and necessary product changes to your customers. But to just say it was never planned to do kiting is a bad try to sell it to us. You as well as we are knowing you did it to make more money.... Personally I would react more positive on honest statements of NGD than on some bad excuses. But yes Kailer, you are right when you say people overreact. They are saying they leave, they start endless complaints about how bad NGD is doing all and how much they fuck up every update. But I believe in you, I realy think you want the best for the game. And for this you need money. Without money no development. But...without paying customers no money. You have to find a balance between attracting player (instead of screw them of with every update) and making players to spend more money for the game. I am a very quite person even when someone argued me. I don't scream and I can stay quite cool without beeing offensive. So can you Kailer. But there are also far more emotional people around, many quite young people play the game. They are maybe in some age they are used to overreact on everything that annoys them. What I wanted to say: Don't take them too serious and not personal, they don't overreact because of you, they do it at every given time. I am sure they will calm down after some time.

Kailer....
The reactions on the forum today were probably hars; however, this change is something none of us were ready for. Granted there were many things improved; however, this affects the most major point of this game...fighting. Already classes have to deal with the "South Cross Monkey" killing many in a single blow. The reverse speed was at times the only form of possible protection against a charging barb or knight using south cross. Perhaps a better solution for this would have been to apply a damage limit per blow in addition to slower backward speed. I was almost destroyed today by a lvl 43 barb who issued a south cross almost 2k. If it were not for the kindness of a passing green hunter the outcome would have been different. I don't mind loosing; however, this was the first hit from the barb and guess what...6 seconds later I have another one coming. I'm still playing...I'm irritated...but I do enjoy the community. I can tell you that it is not the game that keeps me playing it is the community. However, if too many friends and adversaries leave....then what is the point??

If they wanted to make lvling harder they could have just increased the armor/speed/hitpoints of mobs.
Why not increase the speed of mobs to counteract the backpedal speed of ranged classes? It would make escaping from them harder too if things went wrong. That would add a more realistic flavor to pve, and make it a bit more exciting. And it would not totally screw over all the ranged classes in PVP/RVR...which the change that NGD did implement did do. We are full of great suggestions NGD, it would be nice that instead of making ill advised unannounced changes that NO ONE had specified or asked for that you actually spent your time doing things like, oh.....fixing broken or imbalanced spells. Seriously, who cares about walk animation? What we do care about is that MoD animation doesn't last the whole spell and is broken. That is a HUGE playing problem, but nope....no reason to fix that. :-/ |
