Default Incomprehension about bows damages.

Hello,

I ask me questions about the damages of my bows. As you can see, there are two bows. The first one looks better than the second one, but.. i've made some tests and these say the opposite. Furthermore the 1st bow is fast whereas the 2nd is medium...

http://img527.imageshack.us/img527/1...9090217034.jpg

Serie 1 (normal hit) : 256 - 246 - 259 - 261 - 245 - 249 - 251 - 240 - 248 - etc.
Serie 2 (normal hit) : 270 - 158 - 272 - 272 - 277 - 259 - 274 - 265 - 268 - etc.

For these series, i've always hit the "same" mob (poor mobs moreover, i'm really sorry to have hurt you XD).

I've make the average of 20 hits :
Serie 1 = 249
Serie 2 = 264.6

So... what's the problem ? ^^
I know that the mobs has got differents "shields" and protection for piercing, slashing, lightning, etc.

That is why I've also make this test on other mobs (Aquantis, Tol-Tar, Gryphon), as well as on a player, without his armor. The result is the same.

I don't really understand. If somebody knows why i've these strange averages... ?

Attack speed has some multiplier for damage, slow weapons having the highest damage and fast ones lowest.

I admits what you say, but...
I am not really sure that there is one variables "hidden" from the damages caused according to the speed of weapons.

It seems totally illogical... Why ? Because they are already balanced by their speed as well as by their range.
A slower weapon is conceived to make damages higher than a faster weapon...

In my case, I should say: "Oh I've a bow which is faster at once and which makes more damages than the other one ! It seems really better !"

It's NGD who fixed a variable such as :
Fast speed = x 1.5 dmg
Medium speed = x 2 dmg
Slow speed = x 2.5 dmg
Besides the balancing of the damages ?

I am interested to know where from come these values =)

DPS wise the bonus is virtually the same for all weapon speeds, but it seems to be slightly lower on slow and very slow weapons.

That difference is from your dexterity!

Dexterity give different bonus damage depend on weapon speed (slower is highter) and class (marksmen get more than hunter). This works the same for all class. (int for mages and strength for warriors).

Thats all.

From the regnum wiki:

Quote:
Attack damage

This is the damage that a character will inflict on a target with normal attacks. It is not a fixed value, but rather a random value within a range. This range can be seen in the character stats window, and is calculated like so:

Attack = Damage from weapons and other equipment + (Primary attribute - 20) * a

Variable 'a' takes the following values, depending on Subclass and weapon speed:
Fast Medium Slow Very Slow
Warlocks, Barbarians and Marksmen: 1.5 2.0 2.5 3.0
Conjurers, Knights and Hunters: 1.125 1.5 1.875 N/A

The attack damage can also be increased or decreased by powers, and the damage dealt to the target is of course also subject to reduction by armour, spells, barriers etc.

It's true that the bows damage is a altered by weapon speed.

Hunters:
Carry a medium speed range 25 shortbow as a main weapon
Carry a long bow 30m for range attacks (ensnare + basic)
Carry a fast speed shortbow (speed buffing)

Marksmen:
Carry a shortbow range 25 fast speed (quick casts with instants)
Carry a longbow 30m (distance)
* Shortbow 25m is optional

Fast bows are great if you need to shoot out alot of instant - .5 casting time skills that do not use weapon damage in calculation with effect/damage of skill.

There is almost no need to use fast bows in war to deal damage since the damage DOT bonus from speed only comes when you the attacker are standing skill vs an afk player. Fast bows can work if you are the one inside the fort shooting down on the enemy. However, since the damage is often 80-150 damage less than a medium bow and the enemy ducks down off the wall or hugs into the wall quickly, you will hardly ever see the benefits of a fast speed bow.
