Default Which suggestion do you think is the best for Regnum?

Heya, I'm making this thread when I saw chilko's reply:

Can I suggest that you place the topics where players clearly agreed with the OP at the top and notice Chilko asked that the suggestions be organized "per sub class". Perhaps you could then make an "other" heading to place the other decent suggestions.

Scias' mage thread, Bois' realm balance thread, and Balint's Mind Squasher thread need to be read asap as they gained the most +1s. All suggestions were great, but make these (and any others the community agreed with) distinguishable from the rest.

Most of those threads are also targeting problems with particular aspects of RO but the aspects are a minor point, the realm balance issue is a fundamental problem with the games mechanics and cant be efficiently fixed by tweaking individual aspects of the game.

There have been many suggestions for fixing the problem, Bois would the best to comment on this as he has put forward many of those suggestions and has promoted suggestions from others that he didn't agree with but many of the Haven community liked.

The fundamental problem is there is no down side to having a large population, no system of diminishing returns or award for fighting against superior numbers.

I'd made comments on this in the past, I make no claim that these are my ideas but I hope they can be taken on board as possible implementations of a realm balance system.

Purple fever. This, imho, had the most potential for a system of diminishing returns. Disease was once (and still is) a major problem during wars and would work as a penalty for having groups of players crowded together in RO. In the purple fever event it took effect far to quickly and didn't have enough direct effect on the player. A weak contamination that has little or no effect on individual players or small groups but intensifies in larger groups and directly effects attributes would ad a new and unique dynamic to the game. I don't believe this would work as a primary mechanism for realm balance but think it would work well as one component of it.

Group bonuses/penalties. There is already a mechanism in RO to distribute XP based on a groups effort. This could be expanded to battles to give a greater reward to the group with the lower numbers and a lesser reward or even a penalty to the group with the greater numbers. I think this could function well as a core component of realm balance and do a lot to improve the nature of gameplay without adding unreal elements to the game.


If Bois (or anyone else with the same kind of trust in the RO community) was willing and if its possible with the forum software I'd suggest allowing him to compile a thread of suggestion which he can lock to prevent a flood of discussion in which its impossible to sort the wheat from the chaff.

That's right... if you, Tamui, really want to help the developers of NGD...
Grab through the newest 10 sites of the balance section and sort it by importance, measured by players' statements.
Have fun..

This. As far as I'm concerned, this thread is already ruined because it's primary purpose seems to be to prove Chilko wrong instead of actually helping to find the best balance suggestions that he asked for. It's obvious from the first 3 posts.

I've spent all of my Saturday afternoon reading through the suggestions forum.

I went through the first 4 pages already.

If you read carefully you will see that most of the suggestions have positive and negative views from you guys.

I did take note of around 20 things, that are good, interesting and/or doable.
Please take into consideration that we are working hard on some major features (like instances and the new RVR/invasion mechanics) while also working on engine level stuff (lowering memory consumption, improving performance and tracking crash bugs). These are huge undertakings and it is hard to insert this ideas into our task lists.

in any case, whatever help you can give us ordering, filtering and prioritizing the most well accepted suggestions is greatly appreciated.

I’m rather curious though why this thread didn’t get much attention. Don’t you understand the mechanics? Being to hard to understand would be a huge disadvantage for them. Please reply if that’s the case. :-) Those who did reply liked it though.
