Performance decline with nvidia 25X graphic card drivers

Hi, after updating my nvidia graphic card driver from 197.45 to 257.21 (or 258.96) my regnum framerate decreases to 20-30 FPS (from 40-60 FPS before) outside a battle! That's a loss of the half performance!!!

Regnum runs with OpenGL (Shader 3.0) @ 1280x960 with middle graphic configuration.
I can't run it with Direct3D and Shader 3.0 because it produces everytime a Blue Screen (BSoD) -> more info.

My System:
Geforce 7900GS AGP
Biostar M7NCG 400
WinXP SP3 Professional

A method is to revert the driver back to version 197.45 or older.
Does somebody have this problem, too? - or other ideas to fix this?

How I should get a better game performance with a rigid and outdated support of nvidia graphic card drivers?

current status: As newer the drivers are as lower is the regnum framerate.
should be: As newer the drivers are as higher (or at least constant) is the regnum framerate.

PS: Other games runs as good as before with the new nvidia driver.

Yes I had this problem too my solution was go to back to the 1.8x series of nvidia drivers. Fixed all my problems and you have an oldish graphics chip so should be fine for you.
