Black screen after login

Hey all,

So I had Regnum running fine last weekend on Ubuntu 10.04 with the ATI video driver found in System>Administration>Hardware Drivers.

I did a fresh install of Ubuntu the other day, downloaded and installed my ATI and wireless drivers, and thought I was good to go. Downloaded and installed Regnum with no issues. I get past the login screen and then everything goes black right before the ngd studios guy appears usually.

Any ideas?

Everything everything? Can you switch out to a VT ( Ctrl+Alt+F[1-6] should show you a text-mode login; Alt+F7 to get back – or if that doesn't work keep pressing Alt+→ )?

Have you tried it in windowed mode instead of full screen (This will only tell if it's a problem with just the game or if the entire graphics stack crashes)?

Did you try turning desktop effects off?

Does it work in safe mode (Regnum's safe mode, I mean)?

I had many times this...just press ESC to skip the intro and should works fine.

Do you use Compiz? That could cause the black screen.

I guess the problem was desktop effects. It works fine now.
