I agree with you on the point of mana consumption for sure.
I think I may have skilled some of the Warcries too high - beserk is a real thirst quencher. I think adding more spells at lower level so you can interchange maybe the key - whilst waiting for cool down to complete it's cycle and go again. But there are definitely other factors - I mean health...... I run out of it sooooo fast. I am always having to rest at this level. No other class is as painful. Knight was prior to level 36 or so... But suddenly got a lot better because of armor (and having feint & kick) - so could do 30-40 kills. With barb I am lucky to do 10! This is part of reason I am seriously looking at armor/passives/type of mob I grind on too. It's really arduous without conj at ready or warlock with synergy bond for mana passing. Anything to ease the pain! I also use the Amulet with the 100 mana bonus too. http://regnum.wikia.com/wiki/Amulets...t_of_Emanation Along with rings for attack speed bonus and best damage bonus. http://regnum.wikia.com/wiki/Rings#Ring_of_Lightning http://regnum.wikia.com/wiki/Rings#Deadly_Sight_Ring I actually don't see much point in using Spring for grinding either - that's 130 mana when I only have 1191 to begin with. (Maybe I should have set char with higher intelligence....) In the text the guy only talked about Beserk & not Frenzy too - so I am going to try dropping that too and pumping stuff into passives to increase resistance/strength... I'm figuring he used this setup so it was semi PVPable too... I then switch to the consititution bonus items when healing: Amulet of Constitution, Carved Ring of Iron, Ring of Constitution... I am finally doing a bit better with
- the beast armor - a level 40 very slow two handed spiked mace - dealing out 104-111 piercing damage, 209-232 blunt, with a (+14) bonus to both. The item also has HC+7 & Slashing damge +16. The config for spells I use is as follows: http://trainer.claninquisition.org/t...eaqebaDabaaaaa It's not so good for the Golems (no blunt resist) but I was able to take out Aquantis Elite with this setup (piercing) which his a higher level character. It has the slashing resistance for Kolantes. It is a two hit for Saurians or Aquantis Captains, 2 or 3 for Kolante, Aquantis Elite/Huge Stone Golems - more again. I alternate between Kick, Forcefull blow and Ribs breaker after buffing up and follow up with normal hits. Seems to do the trick. Not quite as easy as equivalent level knight with the extra tricks up its sleeve of feint/troll skin for constitution bonus. I actually find I can usually do the Big Saurians and Aquantis Captain for two normal hits too - without extra mana usage. Last edited by JGFMK1; 12-17-2011 at 04:02 PM. |

Hm. Interesting points everywhere.
A clanmate of mine told me of a very efficient way to grind barb when you use a dedicated grind setup. I was dubious, but I realised that if you can pull it off, two-hitting mobs is possible even unbuffed - In fact, I frequently one-hit-killed mobs with buffs on. The idea is to maximise strength. Use +5 str pauldrons, master warrior amulet, +5 str helm, max strength passives if possible, etc. So, after you max warcries, you use Frenzy, Berserk, and overwhelming strength on lvl 5. That's pretty much standard. Then, you go for the pierce and blunt tree. This works well especially since 2-handed vslow weps are always spears and hammers. Either a spear or a hammer will work for this. So, you grab as much str as you can from Lethal Anatomy and the pierce tree passive. Lethal anatomy gives more, so hammer works a bit better IMO, but as you rise in lvls it makes minimal difference. Just try to maximise your str as efficiently as possible considering what weapon you use, since you always need the weapon tree dmg buff maximised. I did both spear and hammer with this setup, and both worked perfectly fine. TFB is a great spell, but it's not very efficient for grinding. The reason: it wears off after 5 hits, and drains your mana REALLY fast. Kick isn't really that useful either since you need a fairly high investment of points to kick mobs for long enough to avoid a hit. Caution is decent though, so grabbing it, even if only lvl 2, is recommended. If you feel like experimenting and you have enough points, grab Colossus. I used it to squeeze out some extra damage in the beginning, and it worked great. And if you get a conju, it's even better, since you can just keep activating it to increase your damage. |

I have 3 high lvl barbs 2 50+ and a level 60, I found that grinding is a pain but is easier with a vslow hammer. The damage difference from min to max on hammers has always been the smallest so your damage is more constant.
Try this setup for grindng Blunt 15; Brutal 4, lethal 4, Crushing 1 Peircing 7; Versatility 2 Tactics 15; Caution 4 Warcries 19; Frenzy 5. Chal Roar 5, Berserk 5, OW Strength 5, Spring 5 (optional, its nice to use to get around faster) 2hd Mastery 11; TFB 3, SB 2 You could move points from spring and put them in fulm its up to you. This is the general setup i used at that level and similar all the way to max level. Its a nice normal hit setup, so the only mana used is for buffing, put your weapon away between mobs and you will find you shouldn't run out of mana. You can either find yourself a conju or use potions for health cos resting gets boring lol.

With the setup I mentioned, depending on the mob density/level of mob I was grinding - I was able to grind 6.4-7.9K at a time solo between rests.
I found when I concentrated on lower levels - I could do the two hits most of the time without buffs for greens and blue. With yellows use Kick or Forceful blow or Ribs breaker - then normals. If a lower level mob was causing me grief I'd do this too. Later I did some tag teaming with another barb at same level with a conj in toe - I was able to plough through level 42 amazingly quickly. We were both single hitting and moving on and conj was occassionally healing/doing syngery bond to us both. So I am a definite convert for grinding aspect of Barb now vs Knight. With Knight you also have Army of One which gives you fantastic resistance to damage vs Barb. But I think I am doing at least 2.5 times as many hits with the Knight now and suddenly having a yearning to go back to doing the Barb! I do tend to err on side of protecion - Caution :4, resistance passives for longer time between heals if grinding solo - I hate resting to heal. On level 42, I added Spring 2, and 43, Beserk 5 & Overwhelming Strength 5 (now I have more mana to play with). I've kept the Beast armor for mobs and it's working a treat. As the other character classes do ranged attacks, the subtleties of amor resistance had been something I'd rather overlooked to this point... I also added an Azurite Lightening gem to the mace for an extra bit of a boost, as it had an empty slot. Last edited by JGFMK1; 12-18-2011 at 11:02 PM. |
