Is this going to get a sticky sometime soon? 'Cause I'm positive other people are having this same problem, and are looking for a solution.

This guide still applies even for 8.10, only few changes happen, like adding some mesa libraries for locating properly GL/gl.h while compiling library for making weird textures go away (last "make" in guide). I ll see to rewrite changes these days.
Its very useful topic still, add it to sticky

It seems to work perfectly on my ati x1550 :O
I suggest to set colour rounding method on "round to nearest colour" in Driconf settings>image quality and to add this PPA: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-updates (you may also try this PPA that includes unstable software https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/ppa) Last edited by ethil; 06-18-2009 at 10:04 AM. |

I stop play game anyway. But i find the reason.
ATI X1200 driver in ubuntu is a opensource drivers. This opensource drivers does't support the open gl 2.0 (someting like this) Solution is install Real ATI drivers form the ATI site but ATI doesn't support x1200 for the newest distrib. But now ..maybe read this https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RadeonDriver or this https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/ATI Good luck |

This is old issue, I wonder why you needed to enable TS3C.
Imho no driconf is required mesa finds and loads library by default when its installed. Realy NGD should put info for linux users on their website, that S3 textute compresion is needed along with latest mesa if You use open-source drivers, so the topic is not being repeated over and over. |
