Barbarians are very good when you control the battle but pretty much useless when your enemies have more control.
Because of barbarians relative weakness, high damage and exposed position in the front lines they often be primary targets.

I have to say Marksmen are most effective since they perform well in all situations.

Both Hunters and barbarians are very effective in the open field but less at fort wars and big group battles.

<DkySven> the big problem with balance discussions on the Regnum forum is that a lot of people just suck at playing their class

I think barbarians are the most effective, yes they get targeted at fort battles but if you have say 5 or more barbarians at your side charging the enemy they usually retreat and run away.

Sure you can knock them down and continue to attack them with ur rangers only for them to be healed again by the conjurers which means practically nothing has changed, but if barbarians were there and charged while they were knocked down that would come close to destroying thier army =]

You describe a situation where one side has some sort of control
in that situation barbarians are very effective.
But this is not barbarians being effective its a team being effective allowing barbarians to excel.
But 90% of the time they just stand there doing nothing, waiting to be charged by numerous enemies or maybe casting onslaught to help people get to safety or leach some points.

Sometimes that happens but who are the once that get left behind and killed when you retreat?
Yes low levels, warlocks and warriors you wont see mana high level archer or conjurers die.

If insulted barbarians im very sorry
Since i played barbarian for about a year now maybe i could be forgiven.
I know all classes play their role and barbarians certainly have one
I just dont see it as effectiveness when your not even taking part for long periods in battles.
In fact when a opposing team do what they are supposed to do barbarians pose little to no threat.
Insulting as it may be barbarians are not effective
but they can have moments when they dominate completely.
