EDIT: And so far, it's hemoglobin giving the red color to blood. If you see your veins blue through your skin it's just barely depending on blood's color (afaik light through skin play a primary effect). So since hemoglobin is primary made of iron, if not oxygenated would be almost brown, not blue.
