The only reason I even play this game now is because of them. And a lot of them have become premium users. Fortunately for me, I am not a linux user. Which means that I have a broader selection of games, unlike the linux-only user. Unfortunately (for ngd), linux is becoming more and more popular. Which means that entertainment for the linux will naturally become under scrutinization of the big game companies. Sooner or later, especially at this rate, there will be a better game out there for linux users... Anyway... why ngd? Why? This game used to be so good...now look at this... Players complaining and leaving... Ngd starting to value money more than the players... and being contradictory too... The fact that more people seem to be hired by ngd...means that their operational costs are increasing... so they would need more income to cover it. Income they might not be getting as much of. I, for one, am definitely not inclined to spend money on premium ever since the xp reduction and fatigue double bomb were dropped on us. People want a lag-free, bug-free, and stable game. That's why some of them buy premium, because they are hoping...nay...praying that you will give them this. It definitely is what I want. In fact, I don't give a damn about invasions if the core of the game is so... wretched. I like...no...love the general concept of the game. I love how you have made a superb pvp system with the realm versus realm combat. It definitely outshines all the guild versus guild combat...and the pking of other games... You guys had a good game going, but you have lost your way. Please go back to your old ways. We are the players here. We are the customers and we deserve a better product. Oh, and no weak excuses this time, if I see another one of those...I will start tearing them apart, because I am fed up with what all the players have been put through.

Agreed Sparticus.
The only reason I ever bought premium was out of sincere love and hope for what Regnum could become. I could say more, but I, and many others, have said more than enough. It's time to be quiet now, and just let NGD take the game where they are going to take it. Regards.

yeah...this is the only game out there where people will say, "buy premium, support the game company". I suppose any game where the game survives due to donations will be unlikely to survive. A game should be able to stand on its own feet, without the aid of its players. Unfortunately, I think that NGD has taken advantage of the generosity of the community and being uncriticized due to the fact that people are afraid of being banned the game has stagnated...
But now...if ngd bans anyone who criticizes them, then they will only make themselves less open to criticism and make themselves more of a malevolent dictatorship.

What bug me most, apart from the actual change, is that this was not communicated in any way beforehand, so we could have tested and commented about it without being annoyed by an unwanted change that was forced upon us. What was announced to be "maintenance" and what everyone believed to be the deployment of the new server turned out to be an update that changes major aspects of gameplay. I do not think that this is the way you should treat the community you say you respect.
If this was introduced to make warrior against archer fights more fair for the warrior, it would have been enough to not apply the movement speed bonuses from the evasion tree while moving backwards. Warriors would have been able to catch the archer with spring easily enough. I think most people could have lived with that, although some will disagree. If this was really changed to make leveling slower for archers so you can sell more boosters, as was suggested here, you haven't done yourself a favor. There will always be people who buy premium and those who don't (or can't for various reasons). The kills/time ratio is actually worse when you are "kiting" compared to just standing there and doing damage as fast as possible. So you use a lot more booster time when using exp-boosters, meaning you need more of them. At the same time, fort wars are being made more static then they already are. The attack/retreat tactics are being limited to the point of making them unfeasible. Withdrawal fights on open ground are basically impossible, which I think is sad, as I found them one of the most enjoyable aspects of the game, even when unsuccessful. Also, the changelog now says: Quote:

NGD,
Right now you have the best free online RPG with a native client for a free operating system. Thus, you attract a lot of players, which makes the warzone on Ra an exciting place with great competition. Your source of revenue depends on this. Without the players who never or hardly ever pay for premium items, Ra would likely be a boring place. Your last few updates have included changes that are pushing the free-only players to the limit: fatigue, xp penalty and now walking-only backwards. Before these changes, it was already a monumental exercise in will-over-boredom to reach level 50 unboosted. Also, I've read that the 10% xp rule killed huge group levelling which sounded like a lot of fun. I recommend that you rollback all of these changes before another free (or even worse, open-source) MMORPG for linux comes out without these limitations -- because you will overnight lose a majority of your players. Rollback these changes and make RO a place that people love to play in -- instead of just tolerating it because there's no better alternative -- and you'll have loyal fans no matter what else comes out. On the positive side, removing Realm chat in the warzone was a great change. I am excited for invasions and giving more meaning to forts and castles. The recent SOTW change was great and I expect more balance changes (SC) in the future. So, I have not yet lost hope. Yet, after each of the last updates, I've spent a few hours checking around for alternative free RPGs that run linux natively. I have money to spend, but won't spend it on ximerin until I feel that RO isn't always one step away from being 'that game I used to love playing.' I'm starting to not trust NGD to keep the game playable and free. When I started playing (August 2007,) reaching level 50 seemed a monumental task, but one that was just short of being ridiculously time-consuming and boring. The fatigue and xp-reduction crossed that line and the backwards-moving change took another step beyond. Before the changes, people could get to level 50 in a month, but only through xp-boosters, group coordination and incredible stamina -- things to be encouraged and rewarded. I suspect that these players skewed the 'average time to reach level 50' that you're basing these changes on. In conclusion, please stop making it harder to level. It was already hard enough. I think what Kailer means is no matter whatever the quality of the game is we should still learn to control ourselves sometimes. And remeber that the reason we play this game, for free, is thanks to NGD,
I made this thread after an update where people were givings "threats" and "commands" to NGD. It seems its going down that road again. http://regnumonline.com.ar/forum/showthread.php?t=21158 We have a right to tell NGD what is wrong and whats fucked up, but it needs to be said the correct way. So the forum community may attack me aswell. |

I bet whole NGD knows how much I love this game
But sometimes I think that NGD doesn't as much as some of us players do

We all love this game and do not want it to go to the rubbish dump.
we have all stuck with it with all the changes and problems. we have all tried to send NGD down the right road with our input. we all look forward to the improvements they will make not only in things like tackleing the lag problem, but in the content they have yet to give us. I think people get so fustrated when they change something that is for one not announced and secondly not required in this game. I for one have been playing scince regnum came out of beta just over a year, we are all used to each other we are a comunity and tend to stick together when an issue arrises. alot of people have spent a lot of money to make their char's as they have them, and would probably spend a whole lot more if they went around things the right way. when the german server was put up there was incentives to using it,there is no incentive on horus, this has not gone unoticed by players either. you do so may good things then go and through a spanner in the works, we all understand you need money understand that we need to be able to play the game and enjoy it for you guys to make lots more money. |

I think people were right on the money who posted in the beginning. I will try to make this as clear as I can, and I do not want to offend anyone.
I ended up leaving Regnum, and no one knows me, no one will miss me. I left a long while ago, in fact, and the game was alright. If there was a larger group of people who spoke English, I would have been more likely to stick around. Though, I came in right when the XP changes were being implemented, and let me tell you, that was quite discouraging. Especially since a lot of people offered so many other ideas and there was no clear or timely response. I do not expect someone to bend over backwards for me and my whims, but it was such an unpopular idea, it's not like you all were surprised at the reaction right? So the comments about the community's pessimism. Let us look at this a bit. Someone basically said that the game evokes these feelings, not us just wanting to complain about not being 100% the best thing out there. The expresion of the "pessimistic" behavior was elicited, not by a group of individuals spontaneously wanting to have a bad mood, but I think it is safer to say some series of events caused this to happen. According to the law of parsimony, or occam's razor (if you prefer), the simplest answers are generally the best. So is it the community's fault for the bad relationship, or is it the company's fault? The company has the power to do what it wants when it wants, and we can only hope that we are heard. So to spell it out for anyone that is not following me, the group that is in control (the company) can assert its power over the community and the community responds accordingly for better or worse. Unfortunately the nature of almost all feedback is negative. It mostly easier to find flaws with something than tell why a game is "so great." Because when you are having a good time, you don't think about why it is good, just do it. When things are bad, you focus on those things keeping you from having fun, and how you can get rid of them. |
