I did use /reset_powers three times only since i started to play my 3 characters, twice for the fist and now highest and once for another, badly feeling I was 'hacking' the game and somehow cheating. But I did not know level 50 characters were still short of skills. However, i believe being able to reset powers only at the time you gain 1 level (eventually rebuilding your char from the start) would be enough. What if we could additionally save different character profiles before or after a reset, in a set of two or three profiles for example, and could choose one at login time instead of basically clicking 'play' as we do now ? But this is certainly out of place here and mostly one more suggestion... |

This discussion is pointless, It wouldnt work in RO.
There is no way you can know how things work, what is effective or ineffective disciplines and skill are before you try them. Not many player would be able to nail their first builds before knowing quite a bit of the game. Besides NGD already said they will restrict this at some point, i doubt it will happen before they are completely finished with balance and skill development. Like that will ever happen. |

First of all: this is not a single-player-in-a-MMO-world game. There are far from enough questing and non-PvP/RvR content and hardly any interesting PvE aspects at all. In my point of view this is a "pure" RvR (with occational PvP) and where the only worthy content is the end-game, which is RvR (fortfights, hunts to distract levelers and some item grinding).
For this end-game you always learns and develop new playing styles and methods. The real development is not of your character, but instead of yourself. Your character is merely a tool, which can be configured to suit your needs and playing style, and your characters setup will evolve as you learn more and more and get more experienced, fixing flaws in how your setup reflects your playing style. A good example could be found in this thread (i.e. the discussion of Laleja's playing style): http://regnumonline.com.ar/forum/showthread.php?t=36057 Also, until NGD fix every single spell to thier final state, I strongly disagree to a serious limitation of the /reset_powers, since a new update can fully screw up your whole setup. Just look at the last update! Suddely MoD was a chance spell, and of no real use at lvl 1..

/reset_powers is good as it is, this way you can try out different styles of play with different characters and have a more variating gameplay, unrealism? Fuck unrealism this is a game and you need to discuss what's best for the game in the games own enviroment and not compare it to the real world.
if this was the case then next time I hit someone with a meteor I could complain because he didn't die of it in one hit when a meteor would practically shove off your head |

I once suggested this too but after some time you too will see that /reset_powers is essential for this game to work. There is no reason to remove or limit it.

/reset_powers should stay why?
1, makes the game unique (ish) 2, allows players to try many styles of play with on char 3, If you level a "broken" or "Crap" Power its not the end of the world You seem to think this can be used as a "cheat" in PVP I cant say I follow you on that one since most PVP happens quickly and in the warzone against a wide variaty of classes and set ups, You cant run in realm reset for 60sec reskill for another 60 sec then spend 30~ sec setting up your skill bar everytime you encounter an enemy, So you cant realy "adapt" your set up to situations as they present themselfs You will find the more you play, the more you will like this feature, especialy since Regnum has no strong roleplaying community anyway.

@210paul: thanks for your explanation. Since there is no roleplaying/storytelling parts in this game (in which resetting powers at any time would be some kind of cheating and potentially ruining stories), I think you summed up what every newbie should know about this feature. You make the point. Last edited by Rezekstanian; 01-26-2009 at 06:42 PM. |

Now I'm curious where you got the impression that Regnum was anything other than an RvR game. The site's tagline reads "The best Realm vs. Realm action available FOR FREE;" in fact, I don't see a single mention of roleplaying in the index page.
Might be good to know if there's something there that can incite wrong expectations about the game. |

If I'm not mistaken there is another GNU/Linux game which has a much stricter focus on the RPG-part (as in "true" roleplaying). It's called PlaneShift, but I think it has been in development for far too long and I doubt it's fully playable even now. But you can always try it out for yourself, and don't listen to me - I am very unsure about the current state of the game so the situation might have improved a lot from when I last tested it.
I think that communication with NPC's is a bit more like "talking", and less clicking, and I also think several players are more of the role-playing kind and there is more focus on your character and background story. But, again, I must warn you: I haven't played the game a lot, merely basic testing, and some of this is based on rumours I've heard. At least you can check it out for yourself here: http://www.planeshift.it/ (No, this is not advertising for another game - merely a suggestion to a fellow player to try another game out since it seems it will suit the playing style better). EDIT: I checked out their website a little more, and it seems like I was almost right. They say the game is under heavy development still, and they also have guidelines for roleplaying: http://www.planeshift.it/about.html http://www.planeshift.it/roleplay.html
