Petless hunters are comical. Only one's I've ever seen kill people afk, or very low levelers who are leveling. Very few you find doing fort-support type work. Good example of a "team oriented" petless hunter is Trix...

I'm playing petless for so long now. Pets suck so much.

I got linked to this by Efrendi, and he dared me to reply and break my forum abstinence, and what a frighteningly long time it's been, so, anyway...

Thanks, to begin with. Playing petless is far from easy, and has become increasingly harder since the evasion changes, and the coming dual shot change. I persevere in part due to RPG sensibilities, as Trix was always intended to be a rogue or thief in terms of theme, rather than a ranger, in part as I enjoy the idea of straying from subclass templates to add personality and variation to the game, and in part because killing an enemy one on one without the assistance of a pet feels more challenging.

As long as the basic archer disciplines don't take any further knocks, and fort war assisting powers such as camo corpse are given RP rewards, for want of a better idea, I think support hunters could grow as a valid alternate approach to the subclass, instead of every hunter being the same. And I'm not criticising anyone there, I'm on my best behaviour, I promise... I entirely recognise, currently, playing speed, big pet, camo, is the most conveniently effective way to get the most out of the class. For hunters to assist with war, aside from the few die hards like myself, there needs to be increased incentive not to have a pet.

Okay, Efrendi thinks I'm not really gonna post I've taken so long thinking about this, so I guess I'll conclude it here...

Hey, I -try- to play a support role in fort wars. :P Though, I'm still tweaking my skills and learning. At lv38 I don't expect to do much in the way of damage, so I try to focus on debuffs and hindering movement. At least, that is if I can ever get close enough to do any good. Archers and mages on wall tend to see me and think "ooh, squishy newb target! Let's make a pin cushion!"

Like I said in my post - Trix is one of the exceptions because she understands importance of team support. A hunter REGARDLESS of what many think - can't deal alot of direct damage. Even the area we get (rep shot) is weak in comparison to other areas. Our lack of effectiveness in damage can be made up with use of tricks.

Trix got some good - ole - green karma from me for this one...

Oh, then there is John Shepard and Tayla... the number of times those two have tweaked me, they use pets, and are lethally effective.

Oh well. I just would like to see some variety, and I figure a small dragon (1/5 size or so), with the colour variation for each realm's dragon (realised that all 3 have dragons, cool).
