Once you login into the Regnum Online client choose the Options menu towards the top. Click on Autodetect then click apply once it goes through some tests. If it still does not work, in the Options menu enable Force Safe Mode and see if that works.

did bothways, the result stays the same.
hmm im not sure but could it be that i might miss some libs or something ? ( just asking since it popped in my mind ) As for the auto detect.. all it did was switch to the preffered resolution for the game but for the rest nothing happened. Screenshot of GPU it found: http://www.glowfoto.com/static_image.../img6/glowfoto |

Actually you need to upgrade the following packages from that repo:
libgl1-mesa-dri libgl1-mesa-glx xserver-xorg-video-ati After that, it should work, but it's possible it won't. Unfortunately I'm not sure of the details on when that bug was fixed, so it's possible that you'll need either the "edgers" libmesa, or the version from Lucid Lynx.

@Arafails
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...ti/+bug/486367 That discredits your theory about the open source drivers for ATI being stable enough to use. Back on topic now... The open source drivers for ATI video cards has regression issues, meaning during the update to Ubuntu 9.10 some code was changed that broke compatibility with those drivers. Ubuntu 9.04 was the last working version that had stable open source ATI drivers. You could install 9.04, you could wait for an official patch or lastly you could try using git versions of xorg and it's components. |

Arafails never used the word stable He merely pointed out that there is no longer ANY Official ATI driver support for that card. Period. Say "Thank you, ATI!!!" Also note that the word "stable" does NOT mean "bug free." This basically refers to how often the code base is being changed. A "Stable" piece of code is rarely being altered whereas a "unstable" code-base might change every day. But 1 bug report aside - the opensource drivers have come A LONG way in development and to be completely honest, in their current somewhat unfinished form they are probably already a 100% improvement on the complete joke of a driver package that ATI published. Furthermore, this is especially true when that 1 bug report is only confirmed by 1 other person :/ Not to flame but you sir should get YOUR facts straight before going after a valuable member of the community that is so wiling to help. On the other hand the Linux community here welcomes your help and support.. But do not be so unwilling to learn from another member. As to the posters problem - If it is going to be fixed on this forum I assure you that Arafails will the one that has the most knowledge on this issue and his suggestions are dead on. Me personaly - I would upgrade to Lucid then perhaps drop in the X edgers stuff if needed but with you being a new user this may be outside your realm of comfort. Downgrading to Jaunty could help as well but I, as a general rule, refuse to move backwards to keep compatibility for 1 piece of software... Its move forward or stand still for me

@Arafails
I did update the libgl1-mesa-dri libgl1-mesa-glx xserver-xorg-video-ati and as for edger and lucid linux ( im not familliar with them at all so i got no clue what you were talking about ) updating the files didnt solve it, still same result but thank you for the effort @TweakNet Hmm if it worked on Ubuntu 9.04 without trouble i guess ill just end up installing ubuntu 9.04 and see what happens. Thanks. So i guess next time ill be posting here will be once i installed ubuntu 9.04 ( hope that solves it ). @onemyndseye Well ussually i dont like going backwards just for one thing aswell, im sure there is a way to get it work on ubuntu 9.10 but its like you said "but with you being a new user this may be outside your realm of comfort" it probbably is way ot of my ealm.. hehe ... ive been using linux like for give or take 5 days now ( been using windows for years... just goes to show that windows aint good for your brains ) ... But i do appriciate your effort Well looks like my ubuntu 9.04 download just finishedso im gonna burn the immage and be back once its installed... see you guys in a while (^_^) V |

Whoa whoa whoa, backing down on the aggro, please!
TweakNet's sugestion to downgrade to 9.04 actually makes sense. By most accounts it's a much more stable release anyway. The good news is that 10.04 (The next long term support release and all) is only a month away from release, including a late release Mesa 7.7, in which the radeon drivers have seen some huge improvements.

No agro - just telling how it is
Yes - I think the downgrade could definitely help. Karmic was not kind to the few ATI chipsets I still have access too. Lucid, which Im already running on my laptop seems much more solid all around except that plymouth is still a mess. @CrimsonTear The only reason I cant recommend 100% that you give lucid a shot is chances are, over the next 2 months lucid will break atleast once and without the troubleshooting experience you might end up without a working desktop. It is great that you have made the move from Windows to Linux and once you are comfortable you will find yourself wondering what took you so long to switch. At this point , the only windows install(s) I have is in VirtualBox Linux isnt a difficult OS.. Its just a completely different way of thinking than the Microsoft world. Once you become comfortable with "How linux "Thinks"" you will see that it is just as easy to use. My wife was a excellent case study for me - She had very very little PC experience when we met so being a avid Linux user myself, I dropped her directly into Ubuntu/Linux and she has hit the ground running better than most I have seen simply because she was not weighted down by years of Microsoft "pre-programing."

If you have a spare USB flash drive, 4gb or over, I would suggest you use the USB Startup Disk Creator utility. This way you can download various different versions of Ubuntu and just boot off from the USB flash drive. Just make sure you enable persistent data so all of the updates, configurations settings, etc. remain when you reboot. This will allow you to easily test out different configuration settings without having to reinstall Ubuntu on the hard drive each time you wish to try something different.
