Gawyn sucks, he doesn't have the first book of the series...only the last one Wizard and Glass >.< First one is floating around in Crewe somewhere...hum i need a trip to library but I have a fine that needs paying..maybe i could nick one from W.H Smith...
Edit: Alas I contented myself with reading the preface in the front of the book Gaw doth possess...Stephen King..is an awesome guy. Oh that reminds me. Umaril is it true that the Dark Tower series mentions all the other books that Stephen King has ever written(with the exception of pseudonym books in the name of Richard Bachman)somewhere in it's pages ? (Gawyn came up with this nugget) Last edited by Angel_de_Combate; 05-04-2010 at 05:03 PM. Reason: Pondering... |

Im not sure if it mentions all his books, but with all the reality hopping it mentions a fair few as well as a lot of other pop/not-so-pop culture referances.
King does think of these books as his crowning jewel, if people agree with that is opinion, but King wanted to put a fair ammount of himself into the books... //Spolier in black there ->//Roland even meats S.King himself at one point. King is gagging to have these films made, so much so that when he was asked about the possibility (by JJ Abrahams iirc) that he sold him the rights to make films from them for only $19, I just hope they dont turn out crap, infact I think many fans would rather they dont turn up at all rather than get made badly.

it's the other way around actually duck ¬¬ :P
In most of stephen kings books (not inluding the sudonim books) he has put a link to the dark tower series be it the main villian represents something in the dark tower or something far more subtle, but somehow most of his books interlink with the series. like this for example, The main villian in the stand = a parody of the man in black. Pennywise clown the cerature from him is a lesser version of the crimson king. Somewhere somehow you can usually find a link to the dark tower as Stephen King personally believes he was born to write that series. Definatly |

7 books into 3 movies... i can see the 'how' it might be accomplished, but that doesnt make it a good idea.
A tremendous amount would have to be cut into flashback stories, of Roland's upbringing and conflicts in campfire/walking tales to elaborate the time WALKING... it would be like LOTR and RO combined.. alot of walking It is true, most all of King's books make some referance or general tie-in to the DT series. Even the 2 with P.Straub (the 'Tailisman', 'Black House'), even some of the R.Bachman books, and a few of his short story collections, there is even a short story in a sci-fy collection of authors entitled 'the Little Sisters of Eluria' that is just another, oh this happened to Roland on the road to the dark tower too. The only books without a tie-in to the DT series, that i can think of, off the top of my head, are 'Christine', 'Cujo', 'Carrie', wanted to say 'Shinning' and 'Dead Zone', but i believe the 'Shinning' was tied in through 'the Stand', and Frank Dodd of the 'Dead Zone' is refferrenced in the DT series. All in all, EVERY S.King movie scares me, in the fact that only a very few are even good, compared to such great books, this 'Drawing of Three Movies', has the potential to suck to no ends, But, with the right director, (JJ Abrams, Michael Mann, Peter Jackson, Steven Spielberg, George Lucas for example) who the studios give a free hand in making films, and have the experiance in large epic movies/series, and the sci-fi genre, the movies have the potential to be, dare I say, as epic a journey as the books were. Keeping my fingers crossed. /sudo exit diatribe

I heard this same thing 5 years ago, yet no progress is apparent. I'd love to see Clint Eastwood play Roland.
