Agreed. Longest run was about 600 minutes and no crash. I don't really see a problem with stability of the client. There's the odd crash here and there, but, these are freak crashes, and don't happen often.

And I. It was summer and I had plenty of time to play.

I should point out, this was on fixed pipeline . My crappy lappy on board graphics is able to handle maximum shader 2.0 on Windows, however, as of yet, nothing above fixed pipeline on linux.

It's like this thread: http://www.regnumonlinegame.com/foru...ad.php?t=63322

Yes, I think it's better that the client is partly or 100% OS (OpenSource).
I have great performance problems, compile the client on my own will make it run better.

I think NG3D (the 3D engine) only should be OS under a very strict license which only allows to use the code at regnum client. The rest (e.g. network code) can be precompiled (in binary format) and linked together while compiling the client.

There are 2 development models (from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Cat...d_the_Bazaar):
  • The Cathedral model, in which source code is available with each software release, but code developed between releases is restricted to an exclusive group of software developers.
  • The Bazaar model, in which the code is developed over the Internet in view of the public. [There are maintainers who coordinates the source code and watches for violation of trademark rights, etc.]
I think for Regnum The Cathedral model is better than The Bazaar model.

PS: The windows client is compiled with MS Visual C++ 6.0 (OMG this version is released 1998) .

I dont think opensourcing the client would help much because there are only so much things that client does... the most interesting stuff is happening on server anyway and I dont think NGD would opensource it.
