Could try using xfce as the gaming desktop to get the best from your ram, even better is running just the game in a bare X session with background services turned off but that takes some of that 'omg, why cant it be simple!' work to set up. |

Intel puts alot effort lately to have good support for latest CPU's into mainline kernel.
NVidia on the other side got really good drivers. Performance is good and VDPAU support for H264 and Flash not bad too. Another thing about them i like is they still support every card in their drivers - 3 families they maintain. Even the ancient GF2 series still work. From what i hear AMD still drops GPU's from latest drivers from time to time. Well everyone decides what to buy. I'm intel, nvidia from several years and try to filter only hardware which works good on linux. My system so far: Intel i3-530 Gigabyte GA-P55-UD3L 4GB RAM Asus Nvidia 560ti 1GB Asus Xonar DX Logitech C310 Webcam Intel Lan Card Cooler Master Silent Pro M600

I removed all my friendlist, because of this bug. Took me 30+ mins to delete, but freezes are gone.

I suspect 3D engine doesn't cache some graphical stuff, and load/unload everything each time you move from a region to another. It's worse if you're at the limit and swapping to each other during a fight with lots of spells cast. Well known bugged regions are Trellag and Laggersborg. Imperia is the worst, I don't go there anymore. All other forts are way better for fights. > http://www.regnumonline.com.ar/forum....php?p=1433144 If I remember correctly, ieti with a much better comp than mine has same fps lags. My hardware: Athlon 64 X2 5200+, Nvidia 9600GT, 4GB ram

Newest stable linux driver makes things a little better by caching compiled shaders. I have a feeling that skips when you enter a region with alot trees are gone.
I tested unigine tropics on linux - they got way more detail, but if you look careful they add moving parts right when you get in view. For me RO engine renders trees, player models etc. with all their moving parts no matter where they are. So this makes things little heavier. Yup lags and FPS are nearly same. RO uses 1 core, and is not so well optimized on GPU part. Tropics or Heaven run for me on nearly all high settings smooth and nice.

Sounds like you only need to update your graphics card for now (and sort friends list), can update other parts later if needed. Im using a 9800gtx, been meaning to update it for about a year, gives me about the same framerate as your getting, 35 normally, 15-20 in big battles.

Tested v290.10, nothing changed.
Anyway, I just found what causes those fps lags on my computer. It's LOD applied on trees. I suspect it's caused not only by trees, but everything which LOD have an effect on, as rocks, bushes, birdges, structures... See the video, preferably in HD: > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QnfcXNrtctU As you can see on video, when I move nearer or away from trees, LOD acts: new 3D model of trees (their shape and texture changes) and then, my fps become choppy and I experience lag until everything is displayed, then fps gets back to a stable rate. Surak!! help!!
