More players online= more lag Eli. It's really quite simple.

Whether they be dancing in save, spamming spells in save, or chatting away in save, they're eating bandwidth/resources. Hunters, even if they're not doing anything at all eat resources because their pets keep moving around the whole time, requiring position updates.

they have a similar system of server booting offage on RS but for 2min inactive so i assume that helps or it wouldent be there i agree people afking danceing at central must cause some degree of lag

It should be tuned down some. As I understand it, after 30 mins of inactivity you are logged off. So, even at half that(15 mins) I'm sure we'd see an improvement if bandwith is indeed the problem.

Lowest I'd like to see it go is 10 mins though. I'd still like to be able to get up and take a S*** or get a bowl of cereal to bring back without being kicked.

I am a little biased due to the fact that play my Warlock most, but as much work as I put into finding/possessing a Zarkit I'd hate to not be able to take a pee due to a fear of being kicked and losing it. I think 10 mins would make everyone happy . Not too short but way less than the current 30 mins...

Agreed.

And there should be a way to get players tossed who are obviously circumventing the log off routine. Like the aforementioned nit wit that spent 4 hours running into a tree in place.

Clearly 2 mins is too short, but 10 mins is fine IMO.

I think it's fine the way it is, afkers doesn't cause lag and to make such an assumption when it has not been stated by NGD is wrong.

10 minutes is too short, what if you need to go to the toilet or make a phone call.

30 minutes is fine

I d like 15 mins, imo 30 is long, like you can go watch news and return... if you want go watch news, then log off.

I agree, as everybody here is doing these are only guesses. But let me add something to educate these guesses: If server bandwidth is the issue, then why are there some people without lag 99% of the time? Personally I never have lag, network or graphic [not even during peak hours or when there are lots of AFKers at syrtis central], so I tend to think there is something else odd going on that's not server bandwidth related. But this is just a guess, as is everything else other players are saying.

Let me throw out another random guess, as most everbody else has: Maybe it's not the server bandwidth, but the clients'? This would explain why not everybody is affected, and why peak hours and AFKers do make a difference to some , but not all, players' lag.
