Because even if most of the Desktop Environments in Linux are as simple if not simpler than Windows, it's still very different. The core of the OS is radically different and same for the possible issues the user might encounter too...

Constant crashes are not minor/stupid issues.

I first suggested to remove some options in regnum, since he plays on safe-mode it's useless. Then I gave him a fully tested solution. He has choice now, give a try and test regnum on linux or stay on win. No one pointed a gun at his head. He knows there is a good solution. Free for him to try it or not.

Make sure you have a windows restoration CD and back-up all your data. Sometimes shit happens.

And no need to reboot, linux has a pretty good amount of programs, only AAA games are lacking (except regnum). If he plays on safe-mode, I doubt he's a hard-core gamer. So everything will be fine on linux: web/youtube/facebook/twitter, photo/audio/video, mail, instant messaging, games, ... and most of them for free.

...and thinking blood-raven may become a linux/win troll...
Since he doesn't pay much attention to computers, I doubt he will haunt all forums on the web to search for trolling topics.

As you can see i casted low profile but the guards continued to attack me, i hope this is because of lag and not a new bug.

Someone clicked the flag after you went into low pro, was it you ? Because interacting with an object/flag while being in sanctuary/lp cancels it.

A single program crashing is a minor issue if you look it from an OS-wide perspective and doesn't justify reinstalling or installing another OS. If it was Windows BSOD'ing every 15 minutes it would be a major issue.

I have Win7 in dualboot, I use a lot of OpenGL stuff on it (Particle illusion, Blender, Photoshop with accel...) plus RO which works fine and has exactly the same FPS if not more than on Linux with OpenGL (thanks to shitty ATI linux drivers).

How do you know he's unhappy with his current Windows, or that his whole Windows is bloated and unuseable ?
People that switch on Linux because their Windows is broken actually want to switch on it, and are prepared to the change, and it's justified. Here it's just a crashing game that doesn't justify changing the whole OS.

Yes we all know that, the problem is not that Linux hasn't got good programs.
The problem is : why change ? Your car is working fine besides for the Air Conditioner, is it a reason to change your car ?

There's plenty of Windows users running Regnum perfectly and that never complain too.
And the Linux side of RO isn't perfect, I've seen users complaining and had issues with RO sometimes like :
- Launcher not launching (GTK missing since RO doesn't provide it and doesn't indicate this dependency)
- Audio not working (OpenAL...)
- Pulseaudio-related issues
- "Graphics card is too old" issue with old and Intel GPUs that have no choice but to run the Open Source drivers without built-in S3TC...
- Crashes when moving, minimizing, after lock screen, and jerky fullscreen switches...
- Shitty proprietary drivers not matching performance compared to Windows/D3D

Anyways this is going out of the topic, I'll be glad to argue with you for hours in ingame chat about it.

I'm glad for you. In my case, win+opengl = -30% fps than win+d3d or linux+opengl, and close to -50% in wars.
