Doesn't help all the people who buy laptops / have laptops with ati cards, for example, and amd is better in terms of open source and linux support (i'm really dying for amd boards shipping with linuxbios), but it's not like they acquired ati and replaced it with amd drones, I'll believe in ati improvements when I see them, for now... nvidia (:

its getting quite religious now.
the OpenSource ATI driver is there for a reason, cause the orignial ATI driver sucks in many way (even on windows). and regluar updates dont make better drivers. If AMD would REALLY give something about Linux and OpenSource in general, they would support the OpenSource project, at least with openening the specifications of the graphics boards. Same hold true for Nvidia but at least their driver blob works fine. Both companies suck ass when it comes to support of OpenSource. Its a real pity, especially for any OSS-projects beyond Linux. Hail to Intel at this point! |

GUYS !!!
This thread was about making THIS game works with full graphics on ATI Radeon 9800 Pro video card. it was NOT about if AMD/ATI releases good drivers or not if you want to talk about that matter please open a new thread. Thanks you. P.S I did not have any problems with my AMD/ATI videocard in other 3dgames. |

What other 3D games do you play on Linux?

nexuiz, NWN1, all the 3d shooters (I can't count them all), sam second...
need I say more ? they all worked great ! but this game only runs in safe mode without crashing. but I am not able to boost all the graphics to high without crashing the game. I've seen the ATI logo in the startup of the game, how come this game doesn't fully support Linux's ATI drivers ? (I use the property drivers). |

The answer is simple:
The linux client is mantained unofficially, in my spare time, at my home. And I have a NVIDIA card, so I can't test the ATI driver issues and -try- to fix or workaround them. I guess some OpenGL functionality used by Regnum exposed by the ATI driver is not working well, but I don't know which one. We plan to give official support for the Linux client in the future, but for the time being, due to our limited resources, it's not possible. However I read some posts in this forum about making Regnum work with the open source drivers and Mesa 6.5.3, maybe you can check that. One thing you can try to help is to add the line "dbg_disable_shaders = 1" to the file game.cfg located in live/ folder, to see if the problem is in the shader support. Regards,

Thank you for supporting Linux !
I will buy Nvidia next time. the mesa isn't working well, the property drivers work much better and the problem is just in your game. I am sure that you will fix it someday and I'm not blaming you. I thank you. |

Thank you again Surak, adding the line "dbg_disable_shaders = 1" to the file game.cfg located in live/ folder, indeed solved my problems !
I hope that now you know what the problem is and can fix it permanently. |

Coo, but you know we should all be beating down AMD's door for them to open the ATI drivers. I know I'd love to put together an all AMD box once fuzion and the ati physics engine drop.
Show of hands that can see that we'd get fully working drivers from the community inside a month if ati opened the drivers? To not have to dig around to see if everything on your new machine will work as advertised would be a beautiful thing...

if you want to get to that other issua I suggest you open a new thread, but I will only add that AMD/ATI can't open their drivers because there are still several people who has the right for it (yeah this IP Patent thing we all hate), that's why it's unlickly we will see them open sourcing the drivers.
