Out of curiosity, I did a quick count of the available data from this thread. I fixed a few misspellings, but I haven't checked for duplicates (same user maybe posts twice if they changed systems), or even somebody mentioning two distros in one message. I got 285 data points, representing 18 different distros, including a few I had never heard of:
HTML Code:
Ubuntu: 130 Debian: 32 Gentoo: 26 Kubuntu: 26 Arch: 16 Slackware: 14 Fedora: 13 OpenSUSE: 11 Mandriva: 4 SUSE: 3 Tuquito: 2 Xubuntu: 2 Freespire: 1 Mint: 1 PCLinuxOS: 1 PLD: 1 Sabayon: 1 Zenwalk: 1 Insert all the usual boilerplate about non-scientific samples and self-reported data, etc., I just had some idle time during a long build-cycle and, well, this was more fun that writing documentation. |

You could also argue that the buntus should just be rolled up under Debian, along with Mint, Tuquito and Freespire.
If you go off of system base package structure then: DEB - 195 RPM - 20 Arch Build System - 16 Entropy - 27 TGZ - 15
