I didn't say that (well, I didn't want). Both cats and dogs are intelligent, but cats are smarter than dogs in some tasks and vice versa.

I had a german shepherd that was very protective and smart. She knew the tactical spots of the house, so when a stranger came to our house she could watch him (or her) all the time. There's a small corridor that separates the house in two halves. She knew a place to hide and watch almost every movement on the house.

My cat, on the other hand, is kind of dumb for those things (such as finding a place hide and hunt birds in the backyard or monitoring the activity in the house), but she is really good at solving puzzles (like getting food from the closed packs and stuff).

Animals are different, even the ones from the same species. I think you can't compare them :P

Xephandor, I once had this cat that I trained to play catch...

You see on top of water bottles was a white cap that seemed to always get the attention of my cat when it dropped on the floor, for she would always run and swipe at it with her paw and chase after it...

Before I get to this it should be noted that I also taught her how to play hide and seek with the phrase "where is it" - where I would either hide an object, like the water bottle caps (in boxes, behind desks, chairs or couches, and under things like blankets) or I would hide behind something or under something while stating, "where is it"...

She was a quick learner and ever time she found the cap or me...

Anyways, one day I noticed this behavior, so I called her over to me and I would throw the cap and she ran as fast as she could to catch up with and when she did she often bounce it off the walls for a while, playing with. But after a while she would start to meow at me, which I later learned that it was a signal for me to trow it again...

However, noticing this I would take the cap and say "bring it" and go to where I was sitting and drop it at my feet...

After doing this for a while and timing it to the times that she would meow at me, I was soon able to have her bring the bottle cap back to me with the phrase "bring it"...

So can you imagine, a cat that played fetch? She loved this game and would play it for hours with me. I trow the cap, she bring it back, drop it at my feet and then the cycle starts all over till my arm hurt...

This isn't the only thing I taught this cat, however...

She also knew the phrase "outside" which meant that she needed time alone out on the deck of the apartment that we lived in...

She knew "want some" which meant it was time for tuna, her favorite food...

She knew "kisses", which meant to rub her nose against mine...

She knew the word "no" and also the word "sleep", which he would go the bedroom and lay in her bed...

I have a cat called Indigo (indy for short), she is just like your cat..she acts more like a dog..i can play fetch with her..(shes actually chased footballs before now).She i also very vocal..she meows in a certain when i ask her "you want something to eat ?".. when she was a kitten every morning she wud sit on my chest and suck my eyeleashes till i woke up so i cud i feed her..<sigh> cats are awesome, independent, intelligent, loving creatures.. they remind me..of me. I like dogs but hmmm... cats are more for me and are just as loyal as dogs, if not more so..Indy is always in the window when i come home..waiting for me.
