One of my favourites: Rachmaninov Suite No. 2 for 2 Pianos performed by Previn & Ashkenazy (Studio)

Found that version only on grooveshark, hope those links work.

Nice tunes, Enio.

But be honest, you listen to this when you play RO, right?

Yes, you just gotta love Ligeti. You can see how insane he was just by looking at the sheets.

How can you prefer Previn & Ashkenazy over Argerich & Freire? :/ (Sorry, Argerich fanboy here )
But still, one of my favourites, too. Rachmaninov is badass!
Op16/4 (And of course played by Lugansky)

Oh, and another rather dissonant one :P
Lutoslawski, Paganini variations (Argerich again :P)

They play that peace too brutal for my taste, contrasting this with phrases played timelessly (?). That doesnt make sense to me, theres no development covering the whole part, its more jumping from one chapter to the next. Theres a few nicely outplayed parts, but it doesnt fit to the rest.
Additionally they dont play it very text adherent. Its more of a cover then an interpretation. I dont say it is bad or anything, i just prefer the other.
Too much effect in trade for content for my taste there.

Yes Argerich never just plays a piece, some even claim she rapes them. Fact is, if you like the Argerich version you won't like any other, and vice versa.

I however love the brutal parts. There is no silence without noise, and no brutal part without the silent ones, and Argerich is great at those dynamics. But I agree it's too fast, but that's Argerich, she's always fast. ;D

I guess you don't like Lugansky then either?

Dynamics is one thing, hacking on a piano is another. On that piece she just failed to deliver for me.

However, Chopin Sonata No.3 1965 is a whole other story, thats played fucking genious.

But well she was young and pretty back then.. lol

And Lugansky, why should i not like it? Hes playing it great with a good tone. Its not too fast either.
