And? He said most of archers spells are instant (which is invalid generalization - there are subclasses). Not that we have more of them then lock. So what is your point?

You should try it and see how sucessfull you are against ennemies

Against melee ennemies you'll definetly need mind push, ivy, or will domain, to keep them from reaching you.

And against ranged ennemies you'll see that they have better skills than your staff

Mobs did. Savage goblin + my pet + my bow. First one was killed by guardian ghost.
