Clearly, if Amarok provides an experience that you perceive as nicer, it's a better player for you. Personally, I dislike the interface organisation. (Notes of interest — mutter is my window manager, evolution is my email client, epiphany is my web browser, and nautilus is my file manager; Every process you see here except Amarok is running with full debugging symbols, being compiled from development code as of, oh, 7 hours or so ago).

My amarok uses 105mb with a playlist of 865 tracks, and 2-3% while idle.

My foobar uses about 40 mb, and it doesn't increase significantly when I add my whole music library to the playlist, (7833 tracks) just playing tracks makes it use ~75mb, up to 90 mb. (0-3% CPU while playing flacs)
Is there anything interesting about those stats ? :P I mean, it's not like 2% CPU usage or even 200 mb ram would influence playing games...

Imo. 80 mb for 300+ songs is nothing when you consider the functionality you get. PS: My amarok uses no CPU when idle: http://ompldr.org/vNzZjdA/usage.png

I have 1270 tracks in my music library at the moment, which is about 12 gig or so, but that includes some duplicates and a little while ago a power failure blew away about a half of it (as in, I should have 2500 or so). I've been a little slow to rebuild it because, frankly, I get bored of inserting CDs into the drive and pressing the rip button.
