To me that is not a very large memory footprint.

Rhythmbox is known to be a memory hog, as music players go, and it's using, what, 55 or so MB less memory here? While providing 10 more tracks. That's not even counting the extra memory used by kdeinit. Also, 7% CPU to idle? Even mutter's not using that much, and it's doing desktop composition @75Hz (and leaking memory like a bitch)....

Of course, that's irrelevant. Clearly, if Amarok provides an experience that you perceive as nicer, it's a better player for you. Personally, I dislike the interface organisation.

(Notes of interest — mutter is my window manager, evolution is my email client, epiphany is my web browser, and nautilus is my file manager; Every process you see here except Amarok is running with full debugging symbols, being compiled from development code as of, oh, 7 hours or so ago).

My amarok uses 105mb with a playlist of 865 tracks, and 2-3% while idle.

My foobar uses about 40 mb, and it doesn't increase significantly when I add my whole music library to the playlist, (7833 tracks) just playing tracks makes it use ~75mb, up to 90 mb. (0-3% CPU while playing flacs)

Is there anything interesting about those stats ? :P I mean, it's not like 2% CPU usage or even 200 mb ram would influence playing games...

Nah, it's just that people use to think that Amarok 2 is too heavy.
Imo. 80 mb for 300+ songs is nothing when you consider the functionality you get.

PS: My amarok uses no CPU when idle:

That confused the hell out of me, on graphical interfaces it says 0%, ps says 3%.

I have 1270 tracks in my music library at the moment, which is about 12 gig or so, but that includes some duplicates and a little while ago a power failure blew away about a half of it (as in, I should have 2500 or so). I've been a little slow to rebuild it because, frankly, I get bored of inserting CDs into the drive and pressing the rip button.
