Well, this thread should just be called Rap, because even the OP completely failed to deliver any of the old school in his post.

i think he did just fine. his main example was tupac, did you want him to list every old school rapper in the book?

No, my point is - 2pac is not old school. Old school era stops ~1985 iirc (with appearance of Run DMC). And from 1979 - 1985 you basically have no real rappers, all you have is DJ and hypeman (I think it's an appropriate term for an MC from that time). Since 1985 you have golden age of rap which lasts till 92/93 (maybe I missed a year or two, not too sure anymore) and you get your first real rappers and icons of hip hop in that period, most notably Big Daddy Kane, Run DMC, Rakim, Public Enemy...

So basically, you can say Tupac started rapping at the dawn of golden age, since his first solo album was 1991's 2pacalypse Now.

2pacalypse? LOL wtf?. well i guess you've got me there. Run DMC, Big Daddy kane and so on...ive heard some of Public Enemy....plus Tricky did a cover on him. here check it out... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4yu--OmWD3Q

anyway, if you ask me, tupac, bone thugs, biggie, mac 10, snoop, westside connection, coolio(?) and some other guys...... thats all old school to me...excluding the other rap groups i know of which i listed in an older post, because in my childhood i had no clue about them. in 15 years old school will be 50 cent, lil john, and all those gay motherfuckers. it happens.

Yeah, 2pacalypse Now! is Tupac's debut album. As for Tricky's cover - I've heard it before and it's awesome. Anyway, I've noticed a lot of you guys like trip hop so I suggest you listen to some DJ Shadow (who is much more then just a trip hop producer) or Aim. There are more, but those two are first guys that I remembered and cba to brainstorm for more.
