Mob Damage Types
Hello!
When grinding a warrior, and a knight in particular, I've found that the type of damage a certain mob does is really important. So important that I think it's worth it to adjust my armor and weapon to whichever mobs I want to grind on. It makes my grinding bursts in between all the resting significantly longer. I've used full plate armor on my knight all the way from lvl 31 to level 41, simply because it was the only armor available to me that had good resistances against the mobs I grinded on. (Along with a hammer or mace and the passive resist to piercing damage.) Some of these damage types are pretty straightforward to guess. Aquantis obviously do piercing damage, golems do blunt damage, etcetera. Others leave me puzzled though. I was surprised to see on the wiki that wolves do piercing damage too for instance. I assume that if a certain mob does a certain type of damage, other mobs of the same type do the same kind of damage? Like if saurians do piercing damage, Ignis' salamanders also do piercing damage? Also, are there mobs that do a mix of damages, e. g. slashing and piercing? In the same way some weapons have mixed damage types. So here is a list of which I'm already pretty sure of, and which I'm still in doubt about. If you can help me fill in the blanks, and if you know of any other mobs I have left out, any help will be appreciated. If we can come up with a more or less complete list, I can try to add it to the creatures pages on the wiki (not all of them seem to be showing the damage type). Bear, Grizzly bear: Slashing or blunt? Wolf, Hyena: Piercing Aquantis: Piercing Cyclops: Blunt Grypho, Gryphonite: Slashing Igneo: Slashing? Lion, Sabertooth, Puma: Slashing Daggerfang, Panther, Leopard: Slashing Lycan, Werewolf: Slashing Yeti: Blunt Skeleton: Depends on their weapon Snakes: Blunt Spiders: Piercing or Blunt? Ferret, Mink, Weasel: Piercing Beetle: Piercing or Blunt? Wasp: Piercing Kelonte: Slashing or Piercing? Saurian, Salamander, Lizard: Piercing Golem: Blunt Ghost, Spirit, Specter, Phantom, Lich: Elemental, but which one? Troll, Tol-Tar, Thrall: Blunt Gargoyle: Slashing Goblin, Goblor, Gol-Tar: Slashing Ghoul, Zombie, Mummy: Blunt? Orc: Depends on their weapon. Slashing or Blunt. The list is kind of thrown together based on the wiki and what I've encountered in game. I'm also not sure if the categories are accurate (e.g do ferrets, minks and weasels belong together ?). This might become something useful, or at the same time I might be completely off the bat here . Either way, if you can help I'd appreciate it :-). Thanks, Lien Last edited by Lien; 02-07-2011 at 02:37 PM. Reason: List update |

If memory serves, the general rule of thumb is:
If it bites you, it does pierce (teeth pierce) If it claws or otherwise takes a swipe at you (werewolves/lycans/feline types) it does slash. If it rams, charges, or clubs you, it does blunt (spiers, snakes, beetles I think) Beetles could be pierce though, not totally sure. And I thought spiders were blunt...or do they bite? I don't remember. Otherwise with mobs and weapons, it should be based on the weapon. There may be some exceptions to the rule though. (answers/confirmations in parenthesis) Bear, Grizzly bear: Slashing or blunt? (I think it's blunt) Wolf, Hyena: Piercing (Yep) Aquantis: Piercing (yep) Cyclops: Blunt? (Yep) Grypho, Gryphonite: Slashing? ( I believe this is correct) Igneo: No clue (not sure, but I think it's slashing) Lion, Sabertooth, Puma: Slashing (yep) Daggerfang, Panther, Leopard: Slashing? (correct) Lycan, Werewolf: Slashing? (yes) Yeti: Blunt (I believe so) Skeleton: No clue (depends on the skeleton. archers do pierce, others, possibly blunt or slash if they're using a weapon) Snakes: No clue (Blunt) Spiders: Piercing (thought it was blunt for spiders?) Ferret, Mink, Weasel: Piercing (correct) Beetle: Piercing? (I think it's blunt, but I could be wrong) Wasp: Piercing (correct) Kelonte: Slashing or Piercing? (Slash I believe) Saurian, Salamander, Lizard: Piercing? (Yep) Golem: Blunt (yes) Ghost, Spirit, Specter, Phantom, Lich: Elemental, but which one? (I think it's ice damage, but could vary between mobs) Troll, Tol-Tar, Thrall: Blunt (yep) Gargoyle: Slashing? (I think so) Goblin, Goblor, Gol-Tar: Slashing? (yep, except for shamans) Ghoul, Zombie, Mummy: No clue (I think it's blunt) Orc: Slashing? Except for Orc Marauders, the have a mace so they must be Blunt? (Orc grunts also use blunts. So they're either using blunt or slash depending on weapon) I could be wrong on some points though, it's been awhile since I fought some of those mobs or used em as pets. Feel free to correct me if and where I'm wrong. |

To test the physical damages, you could log a warrior on Amun (since reskill is faster) and reskill with the damage resist skills to see which one lowers the mob damage.
