RO 'bug in the programme'?

Hi guys,

So yesterday I updated my laptop and today no RO (and amended display with all alternative settings lost. Sigh.)

Ran command line in terminal and here is my error:

./rolauncher
The program 'rolauncher' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation)'.
(Details: serial 12 error_code 1 request_code 153 minor_code 19)
(Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

Running Ubuntu 12.04

Any advice?

This issue may be related to the gtk library incompatiblities discussed almost a year ago. Sorry, hope you get things worked out. To play CoR on Linux-Xubuntu-12.04 I ended up having to go thru STEAM as they include 'something' extra in their launcher version that NGD & GameSamba do not that somehow addresses or circumnavigates these incompatibilities.

Thanks for trying to help Lebeau. I think the problem may be my laptop, so stopped trying to fix Ubuntu (its broken and no idea why let alone how to fix). Playing from windows ATM (which I'm enjoying, difference in graphics is staggering). Soon get new laptop and will try to play off Ubuntu again then.

You reinstalled Regnum too or was it just an update of the operating system without touching Regnum?

Soz Andres for late reply. My laptop died so I'll just assume it was terminally ill hardware rather than Ubuntu.

Got new laptop currently playing on windows. Will re-install Ubuntu shortly and hope there will be no problems.

It is actually a bug in Regnum or in the GTk code they copied from somewhere to create the small authentication code window which only appears once after installing the game (this window where you are supposed to enter a code they will send you by email).

The problem is that they open directly some images from the gtk library (ok and cancel button) without checking first if this images are symlinks. In case they are symlinks you receive the crash shown in your first post.

The error has been reported a year ago and as usual NGD is not able or not willing to fix it.

Workaround: check your system for a gtk theme where these two files are not symlinks, switch to this theme, start the game and once you made the authentication switch back to your preferred theme. You can also start the Regnum Launcher by defining a certain theme as commandline option. (System variable: GTK2_RC_FILES)
