Default Enabling Weapon Trails still causing crashes

Stats:

LinuxMint9 Isadora 64 bit
4GB RAM
AMD 64 x2 dual-core at 2.9Ghz
ATI Radeon HD 4550 512mb
Catalyst 10.4 and 10.6 drivers (both tried).
Shader 3.0

Problem:

Enabling weapon trails causes inconsistent game crashes. Playing with them disabled and RO is quite stable.

My hardware can easily handle in Shader 3.0 with trails and I prefer them as they tell a little bit more about the weapons being used.

I would really like to be able to enable them without all the random crashing in the middle of battle.

Any further suggestions/fixes would be greatly appreciated.
