for the record, my nickname usually is Panoramix_Miraculix

(the druid from asterix, panoramix is the english name, miraculix the german one. i combined them to get the same nick everywhere, since one of them would usually be taken. Sadly regnum did not allow a nick with an underscore, but Miraculix wasnt taken

)

Actually, just to nitpick, Panoramix is the *French* name first and foremost.

yep, that is indeed correct. It's also the name in greek, my native language

Asterix in general started from france, and that was the original name.

(there's a rumor that asterix was started from members of the communist party in france as a counter to the "fascist" comic tin-tin. Dunno if there's any truth to that, it makes it all the more cooler if it is true though

)

EDIT: And just to piss elrik off: How come there's a comic from france about people who don't surrender?

There is no truth to that rumor. Tintin is a Belgian "Bande Dessinée" (French-written comics) by Hergé and is not fascist by any means (though the first tomes held racial/anti-communist views common to the era, late nineties/early thirties).

Astérix, on the other side, started 30 years later and is a French "Bande Dessinée" much more into humour. It was indeed written by the "leftist" Goscinny with drawings by Uderzo (until Goscinny died, then Uderzo did both since 1980 and Astérix now sucks).

There is no competition between Astérix and Tintin other than the fact that they're probably the most well-known bandes dessinées.
