Try to run your game in fail safe mode to see if its run.
From client right after you login when chose server to play , on top of window is Options and go there and chose "Play safe mode" after go back chose server and click play.
Also can you give more informations about your pc specs ? as video card and cpu ?

The game, sadly, is better supported on windows than on linux. Linux users have sort of been left behind.
What graphics card do you have? And what drivers are you using on ubuntu (if you still have your ubuntu partition)?
Oh, and welcome to the game!

I wouldn't say so. It runs perfectly on my Linux Mint 15 and nvidia card with all max graphic options, 1650x1080 resolution and decent 100 FPS in average.

For lower end systems, D3D performs a lot better than opengl. This is especially true for those using intel onboard graphics.
With my intel onboard graphics, on windows/D3D I can run SM2 with 60fps, whereas on linux, I'm forced to play in safe mode and the only time I get 60fps is in the Ignis desert where there aren't many polys. This is partly to do with shader validation on opengl/intel, an issue raised a while back, fixed for newer intel cards, but as of yet unresolved for older ones.
Opengl has not had as much love as D3D.
Anyway, it's not just graphics I was talking about. The installer is alidationnother issue, using installjammer which is now a discontinued project. Furthermore, the launcher and issues with libs for those of us who choose to run a rolling release distro. Let's also not forget the infamous weapon trail crashes.
So yeah, windows is better supported.

As I said, I can't agree Linux is less supported than Windows. It works perfectly good here, as NGD's game could work.

Admittedly, some of the incompatibilities/shortcomings are in the linux distros themselves now or a lack of linux support from Nvidia, but alot if not most of the issues in CoR that a linux user must deal with, that a windows user does not, is squarely the fault & responsibility of NGD ... a single linux coder just can't & won't ever be able to do it all. :(
