Dear all,
Marco Antonio Alvarez, known by most of you as Surak, is leaving us.
10 years working together, and of course we feel sad for having to say goodbye to a friend that did so much and worked so hard on building this world for you guys.
On the other hand, we also feel happy for him, because we know he has a huge opportunity ahead.
Fortunately enough, this decision has been taken with enough time to redistribute his tasks and responsibilities. We don't expect big alterations in the game's maintenance and day to day development.
We wish the very best for him!
I'll just leave down below a letter that Surak wrote himself (don't forget to leave a comment saying goodbye :) ).
Goodbye, Community!
On March 3rd I reached my 10th anniversary working in NGD Studios, all of them mostly dedicated to Regnum Online's development (now called Champions of Regnum).
It was a lot of time, endless working hours with blood, sweat and tears; whole nights trying to figure out why something wasn't working properly, trying to make this game what it is today. All of this just because we had the crazy idea of developing an MMORPG in our country without even stopping to think where we were getting ourselves into.
I actively got involved (some may say too much) with the community and I found a lot of friends in it. And probably some enemy too. People from Buenos Aires, from other provinces, and other countries as well. I even hosted some of them at my own house more than once. We went out, we had meet-ups at Parque Sarmiento (a huge park here in Buenos Aires), FIVE RegnumFests (!)... and even several travels to meet far-away players! I can't deny it was fun!
But, as some of you may have already heard, I'm retiring. It's time for a change. I'll just hang my red and yellow developer/admin armor to dedicate myself to other projects outside NGD (and outside Argentina).
Thanks to all of you, especially for being patient :P The game will go on, don't worry.
So long, and thanks for all the fish.
- Surak

Well, sad news to the community..
Surak, although we never came in contact, I do appreciate all you did for the game and players. I am sure I'm not the only one, who's kinda unsettled by your departure. Nevertheless, good luck in your career and personal life :)
Game will go on, yes. I certainly hope so ;). So, there's the new programmer, if I'm right. Will there be any introduction? ^^
Regards

Surak, thanks for helping make this game what it is: addictive and fun. I wish you the best in the future whatever you decide to do, and can only hope we see you in the community later on to let us know how things are going.
On a more serious note, however, may I have your armor please?
Thanks.

Sad to see a dev leave, but that's life :) Fare thee well, Surak :hat: I wish you all the best in your future career and life. :drinks: And I hope you'll find some time to check on CoR every now and then.
But don't worry ppl, Surak is immortalized in Piz's awesome comic (http://iwconstructions.com/Regnum/index.php) :)
Life and CoR will go on and I, just like Kharbon, hope there will be an introduction of a new dev soon :naughty:

I would like to say a huge Thanks to Surak and all his colleagues for working hard to make the game what it is today. For putting together the foundations of the RvR open PvP mmo genre.
I dont think Surak and his colleagues realise it yet, but you guys are writing incredible history that people, 10 years from now, will realise are scientific and mathematical proofs about human behaviour and society.
When I look at the game today, I see a game productively positioned to move forward. Thank you Surak for making all of this possible and I wish you well in your new endeavours! May you gain great new experience and one day return to help our industry grow.

It's bad to hear this. In my opinion Surak was the ablest developer of NGD.
But we will see what NGD is doing in the future without Surak.
Farewell Surak - the almighty linux hero!
I wish you all the best and may the spaghetti code monster spends less time around you.
A big TY for all you done for all this years. Please come back sometimes to play with us.
Good luck and thanks for everything. You are one of the rare devs that players could talk and learn from you. Thanks for Linux support and all the work you ve done there.
All the best and stay in touch with community.
p.s. he should have a statue in game.

Good luck Surak!
Thank you Surak for the great job you did on this game, have fun and come to play sometimes (but like a normal player, you'll have to grind to raise a normal character to level 60, ahahah, evil) !
p.s. he should have a statue in game.
Replace useless ones in central island ? ;)

Surak-
Wait one minute here, we need additional 'clarification' of your letter:
Is it the dreadfully optimistic...1)"The game will go on, don't worry."...or is it the realistically dreadful...2)"So long, and thanks for all the fish."...which is what the watershow-dolphins said to humanity when they left Earth just before the Vogon Constructor Fleet demolished the planet (& all of mankind) to make room for an intergalactic highway?
Whether it's 1) or 2), as I said before in another related thread, you will be missed. Best of luck & well-wishes to the Vulcan-Logic-Philosophy-Master, wherever life takes all of us .... I.D.I.C. (Kol-Ut-Shan); Live Long & Prosper....
So, uh, take the first (& best?) advice given in the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Universe: "Don't Panic ... & Carry a Towel"?
Hold on! Didn't the author of these books, Douglas Adams, go mad & commit suicide?
I really don't like the direction this train-of-thought is headed now....
[/me jumps tracks, stops thinking about it all & posts what is already written down.]

A few parting words,
Not only have been major part of a truly amazing game but also you must have developed some thick skin during the many years of abuse we have dished out.
..........................We yell so loud, because we care that much !! ...............
This will do you well in your future endeavor as the leader of the free world XD
................your new title is "The Decider"
You'll be a great asset, wherever you go.

Not sure if it will be a joke or the reality... but imho "Goodbye Regnum on linux" == "Goodbye Regnum".
NGD should make it clear about linux/macosx support after Surak leave (or did they already ?).

NGD should make it clear about linux/macosx support after Surak leave (or did they already ?).
Linux/MacOSX support will continue.
Linux/MacOSX support will continue.
Then, as proof, can you start with a real support of keyboards on Linux (see 4+ years-old thread : http://www.championsofregnum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=47793) ? Thank you.
Godspeed Surak. May you have the best of luck with your future endeavors! Hopefully you'll drop-by once in a while.
