Yay! Christmas is coming…

…and everyone knows that celebrating is what matters these days. Well, almost everyone! This year, some undesirable creatures are threatening that particular and unique joy of opening your Christmas gifts.
Who are they? El Grincho and his thugs. What do they want? We need you to help us investigate. When can you help? The event will start today, Monday 22nd at 17:00 GMT.
What will you get? A LOT of spectacular prizes. Now we’re talking, aren’t we?

Also, be careful that during the event there will be some giant thugs sent by El Grincho to the War Zone to create a more conflicted atmosphere.
So, you might see some big horrible creature in your way. Oh! bear in mind that these are no ordinary creature, they're very intelligent compared to others. (Basically they're controlled by GMs, but shhh, you haven’t heard anything, all right?)

How to get to Santa’s land?
It’s easy. Just go to the central island of the warzone. To do so, use the boats shown in the following image, marked in each realm’s color. When you get there, just talk to Adanor and et voilà, you’re in Santa’s Land.

What do I do when I arrive?
Just talk with Santa and he will have something for you to do. He is in that big house in the top, just besides that big Christmas tree. But no more details, we don’t want to ruin the surprise. Go and check it out yourself! A lot of adventures and prizes await you!

Event details

Available since December 22nd, 2014 5 PM GMT until January 5th, 2015 11 AM GMT
The event consists in a series of quests started with Santa Claus NPC in Santa’s Land
There will be giant Goblinches in the War Zone controlled by GMs. These creatures will only attack if there is at least one per realm.
Gifts found in the warzone are NOT the same as the ones found in the christmas instance, and they don't serve the same purposes.
They belong to different quests, and, naturally, have different names.
Keep also in mind that the gifts are counted from the moment the quest is obtained, and those obtained before due to exploration will not be considered for the task completion.

Taking forever to log into the server kept getting the error elements code then exited the client then took 20 mins to get to my char scrn then 10 more mins to actually log into the game what gives?

no global chat.. you can be killed on the gm island... healers are fucked up as always... insane german text translations... you still lose every open chat & ignischat when entering instances... TDM/CTF still not open.. this was everything I had been hoping for personally... old christmas events were so great. We hat local chat, we had places for duels, and we could keep our PNs open for that time. All is gone.

I appreciate the event itself, seems to be fun, and the sledge is awesome xD

You should add protection zone to the whole island.

Same happened to me, so I killed client. Followed by user already logged in, on other account [err][ui_elements]{error_code]. After a while succeeded to log on both accounts, but
[err][ui_elements]{error_code], now twice. After a while succeeded to log in back, but i'm stuck under ground.

Oh and I forgot the bug with 12 stolen christmas gifts - somehow i got 12 of them and can't finish the quest. Idk if i did something wrong or what, I'm actually engraving the ground like lil mole.

Solved the issues with the DB which were causing delays and inability to login. Also added a local chat in the middle island to avoid massacres.

Don't look at your inventory. The quest updates properly for the number of packages you picked up off the ground. However, inventory will show twice this number. So you need 20 in inventory to complete the quest.

The second Quest to get the letter from the Grinch doesn't seem to be working on Valhalla.
Or is it that only one player gets the letter?

Yeah those are unfortunate. But reveal also works, and dismounts other realms with no damage for great fun. Best one yet - early on presents were scarce... I see one and go racing for it, aquaboxio is mounted and is getting there faster. Fire reveal, dismount him, and run past to get the present. Great fun!

The chrismas hat is kinda similar to the previous one if im not mistaken so i wont even bother doing the quest. The mount sled was pretty badass but too bad i cant use it longer :(

I like this event so far... It's cool that a bunch of us have been dropping trees for players of all realms to interact with on the island, instead of only letting players of our own realms get stuff. It's been fun. :smile:

The grinch in Ra doesn't seem to be dropping the letters. On my lvl 34 hunter it resists and evades practically everything, and I tried many times to help kill it and no letter drop. Yet yesterday on my level 12 marks in haven, it dropped within a couple minutes.

You get the letter after Grincho hits you for the first time. That means, you can't only hit him, he has to hit you too. You don't even need to kill him, just receive one hit from him.

And btw, except the buggy start, I'm enjoying this event very much! Especially that quest with killing goblinches at enemy forts(and own) is good one, would be nice seeing such quests even after event, with good xp reward.

Good number of quests, if all events had 5-6 quests attached it would be epic. New mount is funny, prizes are cool plus the non-combat pets open a whole new avenue for rewards or drops apart from hats. Best Xmas event in RO so far! :thumb:

Let him hit you, 1, 2, 3, 4 times or till you see that you've completed the quest.

Ya, it would be even better if it was well-thought out lel. I'm pretty sure adding this quest was for nothing else but to raise war activity during xmas, BUT it won't raise anything at all, not the way as it is implemented now. In fact it lowers every war action connected to forts and castles.
Now, players only break the doors and finish the killing quest without taking it, IMHO the goblinches should be spawning ONLY after the fort has a door. That would surely raise war activity! :D

Anyway, the event is quite enjoy-able, so thanks for working on it for us NGD!
One side note, indeed, the companion quest is the last one and maybe it should be the hardest one, but there really should be more gifts on the ground to be found, it's just plain boring to ride around the WZ for an hour to find them all! It even would be better to search for grinches, kill them and they would drop one gift for the quest, wasn't that boring at all, but maybe next time! :thumb:

Well, I guess it's side effect of being Christmass event quest, so everyone is is being, or atleast trying to be nice to others, even to other realms. I'm almost sure this wouldnt happen otherwise, people camp nobles so other realms can't get it, after all.

It's definitely a good thing to have every now and then, since Regnum is a war game, and of course our enemies can be a pain to us all sometimes when we're in the heat of battle. It's a great way to know the kinda people you're fighting against, and I think that kinda interaction is a bit of an eye opener that could help ease the frustration of fighting against them. I personally have had fun so far with Alsians and Syrtians on the Island. :smile:

things NGD might not be aware of / bugs:
- Goblinch companion can only be renamed if the character is of the subclass hunter
- Goblinch gives you 100 mana and withdraws 50 HP (temporarily)
- When entering sanctuary/low profile/etc. with goblinch active, the goblinch disappears and you have to re-cast it (just like you have to re-enter the fortification zone to regain war confidence... I don't know if the latter was fixed already, I don't think so)
- When entering sanctuary with goblinch active, no sanctuary animation will be shown (just like it used to be with war confidence buff)
- German translations of new content: what the fuck xD
- You forgot to enable tdm/ctf access :p
- Server restarts lead to an instant respawn of all epic bosses. This is the case for ages already. This seems to be so unnecessary. If NGD doesn't know this already, everybody will hate me anyway. New update = boss kills. Server crash = boss kills. Every Wednesday = server maintenance = boss kills

Regarding the companion, some hunter who has a normal pet too was saying in-game that they can't control it when they have the companion active as well, a fix may be needed.

While the event is fine, the duration is too long. 10+ days is absurd, 3 would be optimal and max could be 5.

Practically, there is no activity/war on Haven. Once you are done with your quests and all, there is absolutely nothing to do, any time of the day is the same result. Either people are running around for their quests around forts and such or maybe fooling around in Central Island. I haven't killed anyone in 3 days and any time you ask for war, there is nobody interested in it nor want to take the "doorless" forts due to the convenience of quests.

I'm not complaining about the event, I just want some war.

My suggestion to people of all realms that want war at any time during this event:

Maybe gather a group of players in your realm that also want to war, go to the island, and plan a battle somewhere with players of other realms that also want war. That way people that wanna war can war, while leaving the people out of it that don't want to war and just want to do event quests, or grind with the exp boosts they got from trees. This way everyone is happy. :smile:

This would be kinda like that Team Deathmatch thing that a lot of you want... But it would be done in the war zone somewhere randomly instead of on it's own island or w/e.

Not saying this would be easy, but just a suggestion.
