A trend among most MMORPGs of this day and age is expansions ... in content, features, and area. The fact that this game is built around a 3-way war has me concerned when I ponder the future of RO.
There doesn't appear to be much I suppose which could be expanded upon (it's an island and adding more land mass would likely uneven the war). Also, what happens if the war is won? If the war can't be won, that'd be lame because it seems all factors would be in place for such an event.
Well, I have to say that the uncertanty is part of what I enjoy of this game. There is no people vs pc per se, it's 3 factions, so the outcome won't be scripted like it is in other games.
Additions could include a 'subterranian' expansion, with a potential 4th race that for some reacson is discovered due to the surface wars.
I dunno, but there certainly are options while still keeping the game line unscripted.

Well,
You actually hit the nail with this subject. This is something we have been discussing for a long time already, but there is nothing written on stone so. Truth is, this will be addressed as soon as we have the basic version and premium content finished.
But yes, one of the problems would be, how to expand the world while maintaining the essence of the border-to-the-center scheme.
There are ideas based on expanding to the outer borders, and there are ideas more akin to the one Egro mentioned (Dungeons).
In time, this will become a priority and of course, we will let you know about how is the world going to expand.
