View Full Version : Syrtis Reproducing Like Rabits
:)
At fort war last night I moused over all the 30-some-odd syrtis waiting to eat us....and noticed - I don't know who they hell they are. I mean, there were a few I know and have tangled with but most I've never seen...
My theory is that their water is polluted with viagra and they are reproducing like rabbits...

Maybe in Syrtis there's a bug with the revive pets spell.
Instead of reviving a pet, a brand new elf is produced instead.

as far i remember alsius has the smallest army of the 3 but as many can tell it has a strong army cuz of its hours. unlike syrtis ignis is vary weak at night hours and syrtis take avantage of this. alsius has a vary flexible hour for players and are strong and differnt times of the day thats why alsius is one realm to be fear but is heard to be scared of a shorty lol

To be back to seriousness, this is indeed a problem. We can call it the "Legolas syndrome". A large part of the Regnum population is kids looking for free online entertainment and they logically choose Syrtis for what it is: the carebear kingdom; the intro even says that Syrtis are "wise and just" and "proefficient archers and conjurers"... Now, I'm not saying that all Syrtis is like that, but a large part is. That's why they have these armies of level 30 players who just rush in and overpower you with numbers (in an heroic-fantasy lore, Elves are few and they would be Orcs..).
This is a problem because it unbalances the game further; the expansion rate of all realms isn't the same and it looks like NDG should do something about it (e.g, in function of the active players in a realm, advise newcomers to a realm and give a XP boost for those who choose the less populated realm.
On the other hand, it looks to me than the average player is better in Alsius than in Syrtis and that, compared to the number of active players, Alsius fares very well in terms of playing competence. So maybe it's not all that bad.

I had the same suspicion as magnet as well. The reason I chose Alsius, and not Syrtis, was because I didn't want to be associated with the image described above. The reason I didn't choose Ignis is because they're still elvish (my view of elves was heavily influenced by Terry Pratchett's novels :P) and I simply prefer dwarfs which seemed more rustic and rugged. I didn't even know Alsius had the least players.
From the intro, I had the impression that Syrtis is indeed the goodie-goodie kingdom, Alsius the greedy expansionist empire (disappointingly, this is so far from the reality due to our small numbers :P), and Ignis the heretical/renegade realm and as close as you can get to being evil. By right, Alsius should be the one with the huge army to keep up with the Imperial image. Not that I want Alsius to be the zerg realm, but I'd of course prefer more even odds ;)

So basically Alsius has an image problem :)
If they are going to encourage more people to join, it would help to 'cool up' the Dwarves a bit. I'm thinking the more punk/berserker feel Dwarves like those done by Games Workshop myself.

Really how much skill does it take to over run a group when you have a much larger one?
The other part of the problem is most will join the side that at the moment seems to be "winning" (not that this game can be won). There is really no way to fix the problem but I can't imagine it is all that much fun for 10 fighting over rp of a single enemy.

I've chosen Syrtis because Pizd had to be gay treehumper and it's a lot of fun :superpusso:
My first char was Ignis because it looked evil :O and I think that's why Ignis is being chosed. And I like also Tuaregs and Desert and there also lays a point. Nomad etc are cool imho.
Alsius... :D I like dwarfs from Warhammer. Totally crazy, punks with huge axes, a lot of beer and fun! :D those in Regnum look kinda less aggresive :P
Goats are really original for me :] I like them in Alsius the most :D
And Syrtis... yes, I see a lot of Legoulases, Leggolases, Leusgolases etc but in Ignis I saw Album Dumbledore, Voldemor and so on :]

Correct - a large majority of Syrtis players aren't that good 1v1 (there are several individual players that I discount in this); however, wait until those masses of lvl 30 hit lvl 50 then they will be unstoppable. I fear that before long it will not be very fun to play when you have several syrtis hunting parties with numbers in excess of 20 each.
Oh well....I'll still buff-up and go screamin-ambushin-confusin my way into the masses.....

With syrtis, I do get amused at the way some of the fort wars go... there are just so many of those green mad people... and they are all bound by honour to protect themselves, so they just swarm.
In actual fact, there is no singular term for the syrtis infantry... and the plural is either "horde" or "OMG-look-at-how-may-there-are" size (at least during a fort fight).
Oh, and about Warhammer: Bring Back Squats! They Rocked!
Sorry, sorry, but who wouldn't want to see their good 'ole bikes/choppers in Regnum? Who needs horses when you can do wheelies on pp on a bike?
For standerd warhammer, the idea and what happens in regnum is actually similar: they tend to stubbornly attack, get out numbered, and cut through greenskins :) (or cabbages/lettuce, as the case may be).

Much truth and wisdom here. Being outplayed is one thing, but just being trampled constantly by groups that don't know how to fight is something completely different. Given the outrageous numbers of Syrtians, you'd think they'd be doing much better as a group in the RP standings. This gives further truth to Magnet's analysis. I have long been thinking to post a suggestion here but was never sure it was agood one. Simply put, what I was going to suggest was a ratio cap on the three realms. Meaning, if the populations of the three realms had too much difference, or spread, then the most populated realm would be closed to new members. And if one realm fell too far back in population then the other two would be closed to new members. While I think this system would absolutely put an end to the dramatic differences we have now in realm populations, I also see many problems arising from it. Which is exactly why it's never been posted before. Obviously the biggest problems being not giving new players the right to choose between all three realms as they should, and new players that have friends already in the game will want to go to the same realm. Maybe it's not a solvable problem. But I do believe that eventually it will be an anchor that NGD will have to pull up. If everyone goes to the same realm it will completely destroy the whole competition. It's well on it's way now.

The reason that syrtis counter-attacks are so huge is because syrtis has finally understood the concept of massed local superiority, and learned the trait of patience. For the most part our guys no longer stream single file into battle to be wiped out in penny-packets, but we stand outside visual range until we have an overwhelming force arrayed, and then we attack as one.
We still have our ADHD ritalin using players, but for the most part, our realm is really improving in the areas of patience and discipline.
I therefore wish to commend my fellow syrtians for their great improvments in these areas.

That's because there are to many. A lot of rabbits will starve now. It's survival of the fittest. A population will adept itself to the food recources.
I joined the realm because I thought the realms were asymmetrical and since I wanted to become a conjurer, I thought Syrtis was the best place to be for the class.
Honestly I sometimes feel embarassed by the conduct of some of the people in my realm. However, I have made some great friends here and there are some great people in our realm. These people have made me decide to stay.

From my observation:
Syrtis has a lot of archers, hunters especially. This may be due to the Legolas Image.
Ignis has lots of warlocks, since the realm is associated with necromancy and dark arts.
Alsius has... well I can't say lots here. Lets just say we have better warriors which fit the dwarfish and goatish image associated with us.
Obviously, NGD had given a lot of thought on realm background when they made this game. The intro and background story given to us has made a large impact on the population make-up of each realm ;)

You can have both Windows and Linux on the same PC. It's called a dual boot system. You just choose which operating system you want to boot with where you start your computer. That way you have the best of both worlds.

That's boring and on-topic, but well, let's talk about Syrtis' overpopulation. It has always been like this, since it was the first realm together with Ignis (Alsius was added later). Ignis looked boring with that color, so most of the people went to the "green hills Republic". As a 75%~80% of the game population was on Syrtis and because there were no more than 50~80 online users at that time, people used to join it... Then Alsius was added.
Some time later a newspaper wrote an article about the game and new users started to come. When I joined the game there were no more than 150 users online. You could put Alsius and Ignis together and still Syrtis would outnumber us (I was in Ignis at that time).
Hmm... The old times... :ohill:

I like being outnumbered :) That you can't be replaced by the first Syrtis you'll meet, and that you have to work hard and be careful in the WZ. But I don't think we'll get that in Syrtis :) But I like green, trees and elves too much to leave it ;)
So lets all make Syrtis unpopular!
A thing that could be the reason that Alsius is better is that they have more quests, and better places to train, so they'll be lvl 50 soon. And I've got the feeling that hardcore-MMORPG-players are more likely to join Alsius or Ignis, they don't want to be wise, just and good, they want to kill. And hardcore-MMORPG-players play more and train more, so they'll get more practise and will be lvl 50 sooner.
Maybe the XP bonuses would be a good idea to get more players to the other realm, but it can also cause that they will have more high levels, and I think they already have more high level players than we.

Ah the old Alsius and Ingis alliance... They were some fun fort wars then and made area spell interesting to use trying only to hit Syrtis players.
The population balance is one of the few areas that have not been looked at or more to the point had any attempt to correct. I would rather not be in the Realm that had the most players just because it does not seem like much fun fighting with a large group that the enemy has no chance to kill off. At the same time the population should not be skewed so much to one side that it is impossible to play in any of the other 2 Realms. If that happens we will see a population decrease just because it is not fun to play anymore.

Well you know why people don't go to Ignis... just because chicks don't need to be protected so guys can't play the heroes ;) When i read "The evil forces of Ignis" it always remembers me that pic :

u choose what u choose; i have no beef about the numbers or why this person wants to be in this realm
the main problem i have is that they come to alsius with so many players, and thats fine, butt we have to atleast get close to there numbers together to take back what is ours, and then, u no what happens the if your from alsius
the worst lag you will ever witness
i run up lag when it stops im dead, everytime never fails lol
so when its a large fort war im forced to either sit out the defense of our land or deal with dying a whole lot and be lucky to get one cast off
