My friend and I are starting this game together, and we're wondering what classes go good together? Or at least a brief description of each class if to see if they balance each other out.
We were thinking hunter / conjurer.

Just planning that puts you way ahead. One could be a conju for sure, especially if you guys are gonna level together. As for the other, personally I think a knight would be a good option. A conju and knight together makes a deadly combination for leveling and especially in the warzone. Very tough to beat a knight alone but with a conju backing him/her it's near impossible unless you're way outnumbered. And the knight's defensive buffs are a great help to the conju. But it's just an opinion, you guys should really go with what works for you.

Id feel better with Conj and Barb but.. read a bit in the Development page, the playing and abilities.. gather a bit about the spells and read stories, there you get the best overview.. Conj and hunter for playing together is perhaps not the best choice as the playing style (if you think only on the different speeds etc.) differs much more and the hunter dont need that much mana/heal for leveling as other classes and cannot Protect you in fights as good as others...
Either choose conj and knight or conj and barb...due to the cooldown of heal ally and the lower defense of a barb, the barb could die on a hunt while a knight would survive, but since the knight won't do as much dmg, barb would still be a good choice...but choose what suits you best.

a doubleteam of a subclass is quite powerful

Or at least a brief description of each class if to see if they balance each other out.
Warlocks: Never expect subtly from a warlock. They seem to get far too much fun out of dropping large meteors on people's heads :) They eat mana very quickly, but it doesn't take much time for them to become self sufficent- once they learn how to steal lots of health from the enemy, and regain mana, they level quickly. In the warzone they are masters of the the popular alsius method.... the patented "If we use enough big spells with large areas, we'll fry everyone else" (Though the other realms are catching up)
Conjurors: I often call the healers... because that's what we are. Excellent in parties, they are very useful. If the other person is offline, then they can reset their powers and fry people with their pet, or they could join another party- it is rare for them not to be cheerfully welcomed into a party.
Knights: They are very defensive; they seem to level slowly, so you might have problems if one person overtakes the other (since the share of xp in a party per kill is dependent on the amount of damage they do, and knights don't do as much damage as many other classes). They may not do as much damage as other classes, but if a nuke goes off right next to the knight, the knight would keep on walking.
Barbarians: These people don't bother with the good manners of the knight, nor the skill and finesse of the knight. Whatever the problem, hit it. Hard. With a very, very large axe/club/spear/nearby tree (in extreme cases...). They can do huge amounts of damage, but they do get hurt alot, so they really like conjurors.
Hunters: Hunters aren't the silent, potent, long range snipers you might think of them as. They have access to a pet, and can track in the war zone, as well as sneaking around, but they don't do damage as fast as their brothers, the marksmen. In parties, the decreased damage would still be enough to kill of most monsters quickly enough to be efficent.
Marksmen: These people eat mana. They can, if they try, consume 50 times their own body weight in under a minute. They can choose to go easy on the mana use, but it would take them a little longer to kill their enemies. They are also long ranged, and a pair of them can kill monsters before the monster even gets into combat. If you have a marksman and warrior, remember to let the marksman take the damage sometimes, to give the warrior a much needed break from getting hit.
In my opinion, each class has something to offer the other. Pick the class which best matchs your playing style- that way, you'll have more fun.
As twix said, don't worry if you both choose the same class.
Apolgies for the long post.

Marksman + Conjurer is pretty powerful as a conju. Marks are really overpowered and only need mana, what a Conjurer can supply. Marks have very good resistances and require fewer heals than other subclasses (enough so that a solo Conj can keep them alive in most situations). I think this is the most powerful duo, now a trio could use a Barb for Onslaught ;).
Hunter/conjurer is bad because hunters run passively too fast and would leave the Conju behind...

Wow , so Regnum classes are kinda like Weak dmg / strong dmg , but hp and mana difference , skills and stuff. interesting. also im the friend Karanok is talking about :metal:
Yes its all about how you setup your chars and how you use their skills. It's like a complicated game of rock-paper-scissors. There will always be a counter to your spell or setup. You really need to think your fights through. That's one of the reasons I like this game so much. :)

I'd like to add that while knights don't do as much damage, they're designed to take the damage, which also earns you experience (you'll notice if you get whacked half to death by an aggro mob then somebody kills it, you get a share of xp)

it could be a good idea to have one a conjurer and a offensive class as you will kill them alot faster but not have to rest for it. otherwise hunters and conjus do work well together it ends up changing the two people into 4 including pets. me and darnyte used to work well together but i have no idea what happened to that guy(i miss him)
