Update, maintenance.... NGD again didn't informed users about shut dow.

Exactly that, we are doing maintenance/update. And as usual, Zielski complains about us not telling first, and in a second Putkonen is going to be writing about how bad we are at doing this and that we should be doing something else.

I was thinking of making an "Update mode" for the website, where there is an automated news informing that all the servers are down for maintenance.

This way, we just have to set a flag and that's it.

Maybe admins could fight in wars to get rid of their anger and kill whining players :p It would be fun to see an admin fighting.

Haha too true, always updates at unconvenient times, good notice is needed :D
Otherwise I just run to check to see if any other users are on... If they are then then I need to worry.:sifflote:

The flag will let you know that servers are currently being updated but knowing in advance how long the update is going to take is next to impossible.
The explanation for this is really out of the scope of this thread but you can only have a rough estimate, which is usually avoided because: if you make it too short, you risk being called a "liar" (yes, some users will take it so personally that they feel lied to), and if you make it too long, some users will complain that "it cannot be! how long does it take to update this? is just copying a file, right?".

So, any IT manager or related will probably agree with this in that its best to not give too much information when the numbers are not accurate.

Advance warning would be nice for the sake of letting people have their 'graduation' go smoothly. But of course, it's hard to say how long the update will take, that's understandable.

At least it's usually just a couple of hours rather than weeks (like one game I could mention). ;)

Sorry to go off-topic but Niclam seems to be following this one so I might get an answer. Are the Rabid Snow Wolves going to be back in Dvergardunn Run? They are required for a quest from Heim but they haven't been there in a while. Nothing about it in the changelog.

dont even worry about it.... those who dont know servers are being updated can just ask the forum runners..... Seems by now people will automatically say "oh the server is being updated" when its not working

This is, by far, one of the most accurate and best responses to every IT related issue.

The changelog says you improved the server, making some modifications on its core and reduced the packet length. I wonder if this will give us a noticable change on the game or if it will just help the server to be more stable.
