Does adding levels to your pet summoning actually do anything. It seems at whatever level you have this power, you only have the ability to make "normal" mobs into your pet. Or am I missing something?

Yes. But :D if mob is 21+ you need 3 points, if mob is 31+ you need 4 points, if mob is 41+ 5 points.
That's something most of the higher level hunters had to discover for themselves. If you need any other help, don't hesitate to ask ......
some of us have answers, it's just not 'written'.

Looks like things have changed since the last update. I now can take a blue mob at level 41... with the level 4 spell.
And it's difficulty to me remains Normal(blue) even after a relog, so still level 41.
Haven't tested Revive Pet functionality with it yet, though.
Does this mean that 50s can take level 51 pets?
Hunters can now tame normal pets with challenge bonus - so yes lvl 50 hunters can tame lvl 51 pets.
The revive spell works fine - tho occasionally it fails to work. When this happens i simply relog (using the change character option) and the pet appears when i re-enter the game.

You have to insrease the lvl of the tame spell as you hunter gains higher lvls (if you want a same-lvl pet).

When Revive Pet fails to work, it is usually because a Knight Taunt'ed the pet, causing it to run away, but not die.
In this case the pet is usually stuck somewhere far away and relogging will put it back at your side.
They used to drown from Taunt, but it seems now that if a pet touches deep water, it starts just walking off.
There is a bug that occasionally prevents revive pet after the pet has died.
It has nothing to do with taunt.
I am not the only one who gets it - other hunters i know get it also.
And as i said, all you have to do is relog, so it's no biggie.

Occasionally? LOL, for me it was unfailingly.
That's one of the reasons i stopped using pets. Another reason being Taunt, and the third major reason being their almost total uselessness in fort (or big) battles.

It works for me, and reloging from time to time is not big deal :D

Confusion
I think i'll save my 200 mana confuse spell for enemy conjurors, thanks. And btw, getting confuse AND a good pet demands steep sacrifices in other areas of the character build that i simply am not willing to give up. It's as simple as that.

I have no interest in any class that cannot see farther than approx 60 meters.
