Any votes out there for the best gaming pad for Regnum? I'm running SuSE 10.2, so my options will be limited anyway as far as programming software, but I am sure I can write something myself if I can find a pad decent enough.

Gaming pad ?
When you say gaming pad, I think about mouse pads, and this also what google gives me at a search.
But it seems like you are talking about something else, because you mention your operating system.

My mousepad is a Func Surface, the old model.
In combination with an MX510 I have a nice and comfortable experience with Regnum ;)

Mx518 and cheap who-knows-where-it-came-from-pad FTW!

A nice pad, mmh Steel Qck comes to my mind atm.

I just realized that I mis-typed, it should have said "gaming keypad", my apologies. For an example, you can check out:

You know what the movement keys are in Regnum Online,
try to imagine what it would feel like when you play using those keys, on the keypad you are looking at. I think that's the best way to make your decision.

I use a dvorak keyboard, I don't use keypads designed for gaming. So unfortunately I can not give you info about experiences...

well first of all you would have to figure a way to reassign your keys ;) (hax hax)

Is it that comfortable as they say? I mean, I never used a dvorak keyb, I want some references...

i prefer using a normal keyboard, mainly because i've used them so much i know where everything is and i'm totally used to it...it would take me too long to get accustomed to using one of those funky monkey things ^^

It actually only takes a few minutes to get used to the new board layout, at least once you get into the game. The only detraction I really have about the ones I've used in the past is that it makes chatting very difficult, since you only have a limited number of keys. It's nice for games like Doom and arcade games via your favorite emulator, however I am guessing that the community-centric games like Regnum don't attract such devices.

Wolf King keyboard

Yeah, that seems to be the normal layout for such a device, but I really like the vertical space bar on this model, great find! I especially liked the sister model "WolfKing TimberWolf" which offered a full qwerty besides. I think I'll buy that one, thanks Xeph!

You're welcome :P

Well, I made and extensive research because this layout is killing me, really. I'm left-handed, but I use the mouse on the right hand (I was forced by my family, now I'm too used to it), so I have to turn the keyboard and mouse in quite strange ways.

Funny you wrote that. My mother is left-handed and she was forced to adopt the right-handed style of the majority during a series of computer literacy classes. She now sits at an angle at her computer desk, but still uses the mouse albeit slowly with her right hand and refuses to try her left since she is used to this configuration. Just goes to show how immune people of the computer world are to people whose brains work differently, I guess.

Yes it is. It takes some time getting used to and it can be frustrating at first, but I move my hands a lot less while typing and I really like it. I won't go back to querty anymore.
