For leveling definitely longbows. for PvP it's a matter of preference.

There is no better. There is only one you like or dislike :D and i dislike long bows. I play mostly short bow form start. I have long bow but it is only to finish ppl who are escaping.

I agree it's preference, but while grinding the extra range of longbows combined with shield pierce really helps with lvling. You shoot at max range with shield pierce once, backpaddle and shoot normals until it's dead. Rinse and repeat. I can very nearly lvl nonstop this way. Thanks to those people that gave this advice to me. I still hate grinding though, just for the record.

I would say the opposite: for lvling definately short bows.
Dual shot does similar dmg but for less mana and shorter cooldown.
Get more base shot power by using a range 20 bow.
As for PVP, someone already said there is no "better" - this is correct - it is personal preference.
At forts, long bow skills are great for ranged attack.
But shorts have one of the best area attacks of the game.
Choices choices.

Hard choices :]
Sotw + pet + tricks+ long slow bow
or mid evasion, mid tricks, maxed pet, maxed scouting and short bow
or evasion+scouting+long and short bow
an so on and on ;]
The idea with longbows is you kill your opponent before they reach you. So just use a range 30 medium and you'll get a lot of hits in before the mob reaches you - piggyback shield pierce with normal shots. Doing this it's possible to almost lvl non stop(I do this on my hunter and marks). Shortbows have lower range.

Yeah so far I started out with a short bow and changed to long bow and I have to say I like the long bow more. But thanks again everyone for all your help.
