View Full Version : Things that I wish I knew beginning.

It's been a week since I started and I've tried all the races before settling on my current character.
These are the lessons I learned so far in the week.

Town Criers give you the names of NPCs in town who may have quests for you.

When talking to characters about quests do not quickly double click on them but click once then wait then click a second time. If you quickly double click on them the quest dialog disappears and you cannot read the information.

Read all the information the NPCs give you for quests. They give you hints as well as sometimes names for other NPCs with quests for you.

Quests are level dependant. When you level check with the NPCs in town as they may have new quests for you.

Do all the quests. They make it easier to level and give you a lot of money to fix equipment and buy new stuff.

Mobs only heal slowly in combat. If you disengage the mob will stay at the same health as you left it so you can kill harder mobs in increments by running away rest then attack again. This is also helpful if you die you can go back and avenge yourself on the mob >:)

If a mob is listed has a lieder title you can usually kill it yourself in sets. Attack until almost dead and run away. then attack once fully charged.

If a mob has a champione title you will need at least two people if not four as they has a lot of HP and heal quicker when attacking.

Sometimes you maybe suffering from lag. If you get loot from a mob or take a quest and it does not show in your list wait for a minute and the server will catch up. Do not try getting quests items a couple of times in a row or you are stuck with them.

You can choose skills and are not locked in. If you made a mistake or want to reroll with the same character use the /reset_powers command to reselect your skill levels and powers.

Once you reach level ten you can subclass. Talk to the subclass trainer in the third town from the Initiation point. Subclasses cannot not be unchosen.

There is no crafting in this game so if loot is not usefull to you you can sell it or give it to others people that it will be usefull too.

Approximate movement for you characters.
Lvl 1 - 2 Initiation area.
Lvl 2-8 First Town.
lvl 8-10~11 Second Town.

Every town seems to have a resurrection point. Click on it so that you do not have to trek back to the town.

When you die you only get temporarily penalized. When you attack this will go away. You cannot drop anything on death so do not be afraid to die to experiment or try harder mobs.

Read the conversations of NPCs in the beginner town as they contain hints of other quests and places to go. Do not just skip through them. Someone took the time to add intelligence to these conversations to make like easier.

If anyone else has experiences like these please share them for the other newcomers.

Edited 03/27: Added more information.

Sometimes when this happens you've just clicked another text selection of the npc (in the talk window, to the right there's a selection of which topics the NPC talks about), clicking back to the quest topic (the name of the quest) will show you it.

If the whole thing just disappears (not just an accidental selection) it's a bug, and should be reported (:

Good solid info for new players (:

"Well, time to set up john the ripper, a brute force password cracker, and see how long this will take."

/Hell_bound then gives out a malicious laugh

And just so you guys don't all go nuts on me (they are sensitive to the things I say around here), it was a joke for john the ripper cannot be used in that way (on web pages); for it's a unix/linux user password cracker.

john the ripper does not work with shadowed passwords so is pretty useless on most newer systems.

Booting from a live CD mounting the root partition and modifying the passwords by hand is more useful in this case if you have access to the hardware. Social engineering works a lot better then actual hacking nowdays anyways as there are a lot of naive computer user out there ready to click on links sent to them anyways.

You are very much misinformed there.

Hmm.

Last time I used it I thought it would brute force the /etc/passwd files encrypted password.

Does it just brute force the login now?

unless your root you no longer have access to the encrypted string for the password anymore.

Hell_bound
03-26-2008, 06:27 PM
"It can be run against various encrypted password formats including several crypt password hash types most commonly found on various Unix flavors (based on DES, MD5, or Blowfish), Kerberos AFS, and Windows NT/2000/XP/2003 LM hash. Additional modules have extended its ability to include MD4-based password hashes and passwords stored in LDAP, MySQL and others."

"One of the modes John can use is the dictionary attack. It takes text string samples (usually from a file, called a wordlist, containing words found in a dictionary), encrypting it in the same format as the password being examined (including both the encryption algorithm and key), and comparing the output to the encrypted string."

Umm, if you look two posts up, from yours or three from this one, boylinux asked a question. I was just replying to it, but I guess you have a problem with that.

You will find boylinux that many here are weak in mind, don't let that make you stop playing the game though, just stay away from the community.

An iron fist cannot only shatter glass and stone, but also the hearts of those around you...

Note that my comments, which there was two before you showed up, stem from comments made from boylinux himself.

The beauty of a conversation between humans, and not robots, is that a string of words can lead to other ideas.

Now as you can see others here got the reference of what I said, and even knew how it connected to boylinux's statement.

I cannot not help it if you cannot see it, but yet I don't see how your rude and pushy manners on demanding "to know" fits in with the topic at hand?:eek24:

Don't touch that shiny ball of light floating in the air above that little stone. You don't want to know where this will teleport you...

And there's not key to swim : you simply can't :P.
