I couldnt really find much source-material on the subject, basically just an outline. From what I can gather, a Conjurer would be a bit easier to level, maybe, while the Warlock would be better for PvP, right?

What im really interested in are the spells a Warlock gets... at what level does his damage from spells really start to pay off.

I dont know. Thats why I started the thread. Suggestions, opinions, comments, first-hand accounts all welcome.

Warlock is rather frustrating to play and very hard to level solo (read: highly timeconsuming and annoying).

Why?

1) Lack of spells. At the moment many spells are bugged or disabled. Even if all the spells were enabled and worked, you still donot have enough damage dealing spells. The few spells that do good damage either have insane casting time or insane cooldown. One thing to point out is: there are plenty of support spells that deal a bit of damage and have some effect to it... So you can play a warlock as a support class, but hardly can play it as a damage dealing class.

2) Large delay between casting spells. Aside from a spell cooldown and casting time, there is also a 1 - 1.5 second delay before you can cast another spell. Makes chaincasting very timeconsuming. Casting 3 damage dealing spells in a row will take you: 4 second to cast for the first spell + 1.5 delay + 4 second to cast another spell + 1.5 delay + 4 second to cast the third spell. Thats 12 + 3 = the whooping 15 seconds, you can deal at least half of the damage from those spells with your weapon alone if you just stand and shoot. And just using your weapon will save you skillpoints and mana (and yes you will run out of mana fast if you chaincast spells).

3) If you are planning to rely on your damage spells and not your weapon, be preapered to have your character sit down and regenerate mana very often, because the mana regenation in combat is very low. For solo leveling you will sit down after every 1-2 kills and stay sitting for at least 30 seconds. In fact you will spend roughly 1/3 of your playing time with your character sitting on the ground and you stairing at the mana bar.

4) Your spells will miss now and then. Making them less reliable to have the effect you desire. EG: if you are planning to cast the spell which prevents the enemy from attacking because you have very little hp... prepare to be screwed now and then. Also be prepared for your 400 manacost spell misfireing and not doing anything at all. It may keep the game balanced but it also adds to the frustration of playing the warlock class.

To summarize the warlock class: not enough good spells / very slow casting, large spell cooldown / having to sit on ground to regenerate mana very often / your spells that cost alot of mana (which you were regenerating so patiently) will miss.

So to play the warlock you requre: 1) patience to wait 30 levels for good spells 2) patience to cast the spells 3) patience to regenerate your mana 4) patience when your spells miss.
Maybe its me, but i think there is a bit too much patience involved to leave any room for fun :tsk_tsk:

A wishful thinking, that would make the warlock playable:

4) Since the game resolves around spells being able to miss, make spells cost less mana and do less damage but also have lower cooldown and casting time.
3) Since the warlock relies heavily on mana (more than any other class), maybe add a passive mana regeneration as a skill for that class.
2) Get rid of the delay between casting spells, the only time requred to cast two spells in a row should be the summ of the casting times of those spells.
1) This class seriosly needs some good spells.

End result: The spells that are fun to use. Even if those spells miss, the cooldown and manacost is low, so it becomes closer to missing an attack rather than missing your supermanacost-supercooldown spell. The spellcasting is quick, so its possible to chain spells and make various spellcombos. There is less sitting down and stairing at the manabar and more actual gameplay.

After the last update there has been many changes to the warlock. So what I have said above was fixed or improved one way or the other.

Now the warlock is really fun. You can litteraly go nuts on spells and make elaborate spell combos. Overall, playing warlock is a non-stop adrenaline pumping action.

I would say alot more but I'd rather go and play
