well i'm starting a new thread since i didn't find any help in the existing ones.
I am suffering constants crashes, which i can be described as random, but pretty often after some time of playing, could be from a minute to fifteen of them, the game binary crashes reporting a SIGSEGV signal, i am no developer so i can not determine who is actually writing outside it's memory map, but it leaves a backtrace behind, which i'll add properly. Most info should be there, but just in case, i'm running debian, with precompiled kernel 2.6.25-2-686 #1 SMP, (though the same problems happened with older kernel versions), i use nvidia's "OpenGL version string: 2.1.2 NVIDIA 173.14.09", installed with module-assist method. cant think of any other info right now, so please let me know if there is anything else to add.
this is the only debian station that i have, but i run the game on other linuxes without any problem, it works flawlessly in every other condition..

Try to set "Terrain Detail" to "Off" in the launchers advanced options.
This makes my client 100% crash free, and others reported the same.
It seems like the grass is causing the client to crash, especially in Syrtis where there is a lot of grass.
Good luck.

Could be an overheating issue, do you crash in other games too? apt-get install tremulous, run that for an hour and see if it shuts down too.

I guess.., but it kinda get ruled out, i play quake 4, urban terror, and some other silly games like frets on fire without any problem.,

Right, it's not that then, which debian are you running, lenny or sid?

Most of it is lenny, but the kernel and the nvidia's module are ustable.., a couple of others things too.., but i only upgrade them trying find a solution to the problem, it was the same when it was all lenny. even with the older nvidia drv (the one with awful white stripes everywhere).
cheers..

I might have some info for you.
It seems like keeping the graphic at lowest might decrease stability aswell, atleast that's what I have experienced while running the game in Safe Mode the latest days.
Perhaps if you try to use this attached config file your problems would vanish.
This is my old "crash safe" config.
The forums doesn't allow uploads of .cfg files, so rename it to game.cfg and copy it into the regnum folder.

hehe, no luck.., nah i guess it wont fix with a moddding the configurations.., its a much deeper problem.., i was just hoping for a better debugging becouse i can't understand the backtrace :S. maybe then i'll find any direction.., no other debian boy has this problem?

At least not me. Same distro, same driver version. I had this problem until i fixed it with a libc6 update, but i guess you already did it...

yeap, one of the first things i suspected was that.., so i updated libc6 to the version in lenny.., what version are you using?

I too am on a fully updated lenny, and haven't had your problem (same libc as sathilda posted, but even previous versions I didn't have your problem)

What do you have running in the background btw?

jmmm what exactly do you mean.., there are lots of process working around.., some basics, window manager.., may be IM client, mua, mpd.. but it is completely independent to that..
I guess i should focus on the signal it gives when it crashes..,SIGSEGV, it means the program is segfaulting, but it cant be just buggy source code because it then would fail for everyone, then its a lib,... well lets just hope for it to get fixed magically on a system update sometime....

Nah was more curious if there was anything really intrusive that could have affected it, but it surely can't be mpd because I run that myself (:

Ohhh, i see, i run this little weird command, i dont know what it does though..
./flipthatbit :D.
I guess i'll try to see if the memory is working ok.., but i'm sure memtest will say so.., a kernel compilation will be a good test i guess...
I never consider a hardware problem because this is the only program with segmentations faults..., but you never know for sure... anyway its almost obvious that it is not a bug in the game, so thanks for your help :D

I'm replying myself here.., i went down some hardware test.. switched rams, gcc and kernel compilatios, and finally memtest.., it all went pretty well.., anyway, i added some data corrections utilities i founded in the bios setup.., and modified the autoconfigured numbers of the memory's timings.., and so far.. i haven't experienced another crash.., (my fingers are still crossed), i dont have much experience in this sort of things.., but i know for sure memory problems are always tricky.., anyway it was fun!, i learned a lot more about SIG11 signal and how to diagnose a problem like this :D...
Cheers.

Wow, brilliant. I hope you won't suffer any extraordinary crashes from now on, but just remember we all crash at some point, it just shouldn't happen too often (:
