View Full Version : Hunter configurations - an Honest Look...
NOTE: POST COMES IN 3 SECTIONS....no specific order....just couldn't post so many pics :(
Okay....so everyone who knows me here knows me as an honest kinda dude. So, I figured I would spend a few days testing out several configurations. Some I had great success with; however, others went BOOM. So, I'll post images of the configs with my point of view on the goods and bads. There is no super perfect config for hunters so you have to pick your fighting style and accept losses will occur.
Config #1 - Brawler
This config came about by Wudy and I some time ago. I know several others use it still today, Skit (when it was skit), Legolas I. The config itself makes you extremely slow for a hunter so you won't win any foot races with other hunters; however, it packs a HUGE punch.
PROs:
-Hard hitting and you have an area attack
-Uses pets for added kick-in-the-pants
-Uses plenty of evasion to make you a tank
-It is not fun going 1v1 with this set-up
CONs:
-Mana usage....holy moly!
-Very slow for a hunter
-Every fight is a fight...no fleeing unless it's from someone slower.
Overall Assessment:
I have always liked this config and it is one of my favorites; however, it is EXTREMELY irritating when PT hunting hunters leave you in the dust as you try to exact revenge for killing your levelers. If you have a barb friend you hunter with...this config will make the two of you an evil combo. A possible modification would be to drop max short bows and pick up confuse.
Config #2 - Hunter-In-A-Can
Almost every hunter in-game sets up this way one time or another. It is a good general overall set-up. Plenty of speed, pack enough power, and pets are a great distraction during a fight. This set-up is pretty vanilla and is one I would suggest for those who just don't fell they fit the "hunter" personna.
PROs:
-Decent hitting power
-Pets very useful as fodder in this config
-Added hit-chance because of lvl 15 shorts
CONs:
-Be original will ya...
-Still not fastest set-up
-Lacks control spells - especially confuse
Overall Assessment:
Decent config and one I have used many times before. It's quite good for forts as well since the camo + tear apart attack is very very good, especially if coordinated with another hunter. Overall a great config for someone looking to be that vanilla hunter.
Config #3 - The Retaliating Hunter
This one I am currently using and I must say I like it quite a bit. Granted you don't have a HUGE power hit with this config; however, it puts into play skills that make you extremely difficult to fight 1v1 or even 2v1. Be cautious though as this set-up requires some getting used to and alot of hunter experience.
PROs:
-Great control skills, confuse, stun fist
-Retaliation is a GREAT skill that is overlook my many hunters
-Pets with wrath just to get your point across to a confused player
-Enough speed you can catch almost anyone
CONs:
-Hard to play
-Still not fastest set-up
-Pet dies, you must rely on retaliation (but very doable)
Overall Assessment:
I really like this set-up and will keep it for quite a while. The control skills and retaliation make it a great (but hard to use) config.
MORE TO COME...
DING DING...Round 2:
Config #4 - Sneaky Snake:
I like this config....you are a MF to catch and can stay hidden for an ETERNITY. Great thing about this set-up is you can set-up some NICE group ambushes. Having the ability to hide 6 players is awesome.
PROs:
-Lots of hiding
-Extremely fast
-Pets with wrath are great for quick kills
CONs:
-Weak without your pet
-Must be VERY selective with your fights
Overall Assessment:
Great config and many use it. Only thing nasty about this config is it makes you become a very dirty player as your kills have to be sneaky and well thought out. Kill when they are weak. If you like being that true hunter, this is your config.
Config #5 - Sneaky Weaky:
Fluffy this one's for you...This is a GREAT config and I had fun with it for the few days I tried it. Hard to get used to but out of a camo your deadly...just don't get caught.
PROs:
-Decent hiding
-Control Spells
-Use of retaliation
-Pets with wrath are great for quick kills
CONs:
-Evasion is light...so no Jesus walking with sotw
-Weak without pet
Overall Assessment:
Great config and only one person I know uses something similar....Fluffy Muffin. I must say it is a fun config and forces you to become a better hunter. Not having the ability to Jesus walk....is hard to get used to.
Last Installment Coming....Ninjas Next
Last Round...
Config #6 - Ninja AKA - the DMC
Something similar was used alot by DMC and he was quite effective with it. It's a very fun config to play with and GREAT at fort wars.
PROs:
-Good damage with an area
-Decent hiding - camo attacks with this config are a must
-Lots of speed...
CONs:
-Getting caught is not fun
-Loss of mana fast
-Need a support staff if you take on too many at once
Overall Assessment:
Another of my favorites. I used this config a few days ago and killed 5 people at once. Two immediately and the rest shortly after....oh and all were lvl 45+. Camo + rep shot attacks are awesome and this config is EXTREMELY useful at forts if you deploy it correctly.
Config #7 - The Confused Ninja - Or Confusing Ninja :D
Same as above but with confuse and less scouting. Decent config but your slower and have less hiding ability. This config is great if your hunting or fighting with groups as your confuse and area will come in useful. Nothing like an ambush + confuse attack to scare the piss out of someone.
PROs:
-Good damage with an area
-Decent hiding - camo attacks with this config are a must
-Control spells
CONs:
-Getting caught is not fun
-Loss of mana fast
-Need a support staff if you take on too many at once
-Not fastest set-up possible
Overall Assessment:
I played this one some time ago with Blu Arrow and Inkster. It's a good config mind you; however, just not one I like too much. If I'm going to be petless I wanna be fast.
Config #8 - Ninja Mix Bows
Did not like this config at all. Switching weapons is hard for me and I end up standing in a fight without a bow....and that SUX. Some do it well (Valorious, Jedi-x) but not me.
PROs:
-Two DOT spells even though one is only lvl 1
-Control spells
-Great evasion and tanking ability
CONs:
-Getting caught is not fun
-Loss of mana fast
-Need a support staff if you take on too many at once
-Alone this is not a good config
Overall Assessment:
Personally I didn't like it but I can see that is would be very effective if deployed with a group. Takes alot of getting used to switching weapons.

Nice setups. This is surely a good source of inspiration. It shows quite good what's possible. There are a lot of types of hunters you can play, which is why I like the class so much.
A suggestion: getting Lightness to level 5 really makes a difference, at least it does for me. I'm currently using a petless setup with shortbows maxed and Dual Shot and Lightness both at 5. It really makes you very powerful. The problem of course is that you need to remove 4 spellpoints of other spells.
I think I'd chose for the pure ninja setup, I fight often at forts and I lose my pet way too fast. I'm just very bad at controlling it. ;)
But maybe that will change when I'm finally 50, who knows.
When you fight a lot in large groups, putting points in Head of the Pack is also something you could try. When there are 5 people or more in the right range it is quite a nice boost to your damage. Putting points in these two passives would make you less dependent on mana, which is something that always makes the live of ninjas hard.

Yes, lightness is great and there are many variations of the ninja config to try. It could be very worth it to take points out of ensnare for lightness. As for head of the pack, I don't think it works still. I'll have to test it out on amun but don't think it works.
Comp, you didn't tell us yr very favourite set up :)
I like them all except the Mix-Bow set-up :D
But, I can see myself using the ninja set-up without confuse quite a bit...but right now the config I'm using is quite nice....The Retaliating Hunter
What a post!
Nice research and thanks for sharing. Makes me want to raise a hunter.

wow nice post. Every class should have some posts like this. Actually you can't make so many totally different intelligent setups in regnum, there are only quite limited ways to distribute discipline points and once that is done the setups are rather similar and having a summary of which combinations are still possible with the given points seems to be very helpful for me (at least I used quite some hours on my warlock to figure out every possible discipline lv combination until I finally picked the initial one :/) ...

Comp, Wudy, and myself all use various set-ups for a period of time. We change set-ups, take notes, talk among ourselves, use a set-up for a week or 2, then change again..... we are always looking for the "One" perfect set-up.
Valorious is another, although it seems as if Val has found 1 that she likes better, we all talk about it, to an extent, and swap and share info. But, each of us are a little different in our own way. The biggest difference with Comp, Wudy, and I is we are all 3 in the same clan, and we have been known to configure to compliment the others that we hunt with on a regular basis, therefore rounding out our skills to include almost everything that a hunter can throw at you. It's all about hitting on something that suits the way you like to hunt / fight. Every config from above has been tried by all of us, as well as others ...... some worked, some didn't, some you will like, others you won't. I remember back to the first time I tried the ninja style fighting not having a pet to help, it sucked at first ......... bad, so I made adjustments, and learned to deal with it, gave it an honest effort, and it has become the style I prefer. And trust me ...... there are countless ways to configure to accomplish this ....... some will work ....... some won't ..... it all comes back down to what your playing style is .... what makes it fun for you

Nice post
I thing one is missing, I do sometimes skill for full forts, bridges masive war.
It give you 3 nices areas , two at short bows, and one at tricks
Tricks: 19 last skill "abrojos"
Evasion: 19
Short Bows: 19
Long Bows rest.
no pet
not exploration
This configuration goes cool to slow dow enemies barbs, archers and letal combined with a nice terror.
Many tricks take out of action enemys conjus, archers.
Is a very slow hunter configuration , so be ready to chat and go around with your conjus and warlock friends.
