I noticed that retaliation seems to:
- Not return -health spell like Vamp, SK, or EA. In that case are they blocked by confuse as non dmging spells ?
- Returns only 1 tick of DoT spells. Which means if you cast it while under serpent bite you will return to your ennemy something like 13 dmg :), I don't really understand if it's how it is designed to be or a bug.

Im more concerned about the lack of feedback 'the victim' of retaliation get
obviously its hard for any player and extremely hard for new players to know what hits them when the damage dont show up in the log.
I could agree that dot's already in effect shouldnt be returned.
Then again a spell that require a little bit of timing wont hurt.
I think confuse and darkness should block it.
Its a buff that returns damage, it dont deal any damage so it is a non-damaging spell.
If it wasnt hard to use retaliation it would require much longer cooldown.

I agree about the lack of information. But what about -health spells ? I can assure you it's already really hard to time it before a spell and not a normal hit :)

I dont know, atleast mages have glowing staffs when they cast their spells and returning a normal hit from a barbarian or marksman is not all that bad.
With the DoTs, I once cast retaliation 9 seconds after lvl 5 tear apart was cast on me and the last 3 ticks of tear apart were greatly reduced in damage. I don't know if this is a bug, but before retaliation broke and was fixed, I remember magma blast's DoT being completely reflected and SK failing due to retaliation.

It is not anymore, I switch to a setup without SotW and with retaliation for a month or so, and I can assure you that DoT are return only for one tick. And all -health spells (SK, Vamp, EA especially) aren't returned at all.
It makes it very very hard to use the spell. Just a quick look at cool downs of thoses -health spells implies that Warlock or Marks have very easy parade to the spell.
