Hi, I'm thinking about playing just need a bit of info first

How are each of the nations/sides doing?
I am interested in joining the losing one, as long as its not down in the ground no hope of coming back losing.

I have not yet decided on a class, what is a good class for a new guy?
I guess pros and cons of each class/subclass would be nice. I don't really have a preference as I have played each class type in games before this.

What class ends up with a great deal of money?

Any guilds on the losing side willing to have me?

I would also like any beginner tips, things you wish you knew when you started.

I may not play forever (college coming up), but I am a loyal player, and am looking forward to playing a good game.

-EDIT-
Forgot to add:
I am in the United States, EST
I would like my guild from people with similar timezone

If you decide to play on Horus, Alsius will probably be more than happy to accept you - as they are a big minority.
Conjurer is usually a good class if you want to earn much money / have few expenses, but so are warlock - so it's up to you if you prefer defensive or offensive classes.

At first you will have to choose between Archer ( http://regnum.wikia.com/wiki/Archer ), Warrior ( http://regnum.wikia.com/wiki/Warrior ) or Mage ( http://regnum.wikia.com/wiki/Mage ), and then after 10 lvls you get to choose your subclass.

Here's a detailed explanation with pro's and con's for each subclass in the game:

http://regnum.wikia.com/wiki/Hunter
http://regnum.wikia.com/wiki/Marksman
http://regnum.wikia.com/wiki/Conjurer
http://regnum.wikia.com/wiki/Warlock
http://regnum.wikia.com/wiki/Knight
http://regnum.wikia.com/wiki/Barbarian

On the Horus server, Alsius is the least populated realm, but it makes up for that with coordination, teamwork and skill, for the times they have the numbers to put up a fight, which fortunately have been increasing in frequency lately. Ignis right now is the strongest realm with the most population and highest average level of players, their strength lying in their numbers mostly. Syrtis used to be like Ignis, except it has lost numbers, and are slowly trying to make up for that by developing teamwork and coordination. Of course all of this is from my own personal perspective and experience, I'm sure some of my enemies will disagree.

As for your timezone, there's people from the US on all realms. I don't have numbers for that though. I can only say that Ignis manages to outnumber every other realm with 2:1 up to 4:1 odds at the peak of the US playing time (afternoon/evening EST).

Hope this helps in your choice.

For tips on your class, check out the rest of the wiki, it contains a lot of useful information. Also try searching through the forums for specifics as well.

Depending on the realm you choose, I'm sure there will be more than one clan at each realm willing to accept a new player in their ranks.

Ok, chose to be a mage on Alsius.
I am having a bit of trouble playing, because after choosing a character, my screen looks wierd (lines running up and down in different places and can't see the game world). The chatboxes and premium shop work fine though. Going to see if updating my drivers helps, and I am going to check around the forums a bit.

Gold isn't worth that much in this game. It's good to have enough for your needs, but there's nothing to do with it later in game, just for repairs eventually some new items from merchant's (but it can be not worth buying it). Also if you choose archer class and use medium/fast speed bow for grinding arrows may cost you much. Mages don't have any problems with lack of gold, because they rarely need to repair and don't use arrows. The worthiest are high level good items.

Of course all of this is from my own personal perspective and experience, I'm sure some of my enemies will disagree.
I'm glad you've written that :D.

Alsius: lack of players.
Ignis: Lack of players but those that are there are mostly high lvs and pros.
Syrtis: Massively overpopulated, lots of noobs few pros.

I think ignis is winning atm [on Ra]

I am interested in joining the losing one, as long as its not down in the ground no hope of coming back losing.
Only Alsius or Syrtis for u then.

This could take some time, what do u like? Dmg? Casting? Supporting?
i would look at Miraculix post.

What class ends up with a great deal of money?
Mage>Conjuror usually have LOTS of money, they dont need to spend lots.

Any guilds on the losing side willing to have me?
If u are interested in joining Syrtis [Ra] The Infernal Legion will be glad to have you, wer an English Speaking clan, one of the few left on Ra, we'll support you and ull have access to our bank [an account with lots of items from other clan members]

I would also like any beginner tips, things you wish you knew when you started.
Dunno....

First: wait for all resources to fully download (there is also a checkbox in the options menu in the launcher - but it's functionality has been questioned, even by the developers themselves ;) ). Then restart the game.

If that doesn't fix it, I must ask: are you using GNU/Linux with an nVidia-graphics-card and the 17x.xx-driver series? Up- or downgrade to 16x.xx or 180.xx in that case.

if you mention in which server are you, clans from that server could contact you in game for add you clan. mage -as you already noticed and as like other 2 clasess- divide into 2 sub-classes as conjurer and warlock, dont think about gold as n4gh4sh said, but think about your playing style cos you will notice that conju and lock have very different roles in fights.

-spend your initial 5 points careful cos there is no turn back for these points later.

-try to do all the quests, grinding mobs turns into pain after sometime:) in RO being lvl 50 needs so much XP and patience (unless you use XP boosters), also keep in mind that in general speaking you need same amount of XP (someone correct me if im wrong) for 45-50 and 1-45. if you would like to use xp boosters but dont want to spend much money, i recommend use them after lvl 45 as i did.

-real game starts after you started to participate in fights&hunts so please be patience at the begining and give some time to game.

-this community is in harmony with developers, which many MMO's do not have.also RO is getting better each day, im sure this game will be one of the solid ones soon.

If you are on Horus you can start to venture out whit friends to the wz at lvl
30. At that lvl you can actually manage to kill some or support your friends.
But iff you do decide to go out in wz at that lvl make sure you stay in the
group or behind your higer lvl friends as the fight starts due to that you are a
mage and low lvl so you will be an easy target for other ranged enemys. But if
you just keep your head cool and not rush infront off you friends you can
have alot off fun in wz even at lvl 30 in horus. And if you have questions
during game play you will find that many will help you in the realm chat or
you can allways send me a private if nobody answers you.
