Gah,
Ive just bought a new notebook, but of course I bought it here meaning in Poland. All computers now have Vista shoved down their throats, and moreover the language is in Polish.
Anyone know how I could change the langauge to English permanantly :( ?
Or I still have my Windows XP disc in english, but when I try to install XP or downgrade it in other words it dosen't let me because its dulled out for some reason... do I need drivers or something?
Anyway if someone can help id appreciate it.
Damn Vista to hell,

You probably need SATA drivers for your chipset to get integrated into instalation disc (since it is a laptop i think you haven't fdd drive:biggrin: ). There is a software to do this. If you'd say exactly, what kind of laptop it is, if i'm sure ppl would be more likely to help you.
A tak poza tym Google twoim przyjacielem. :p

Im going to try updating my drivers now, in any case im going to try to boot XP from the start manually and see if it goes well,

You can't downgrade.
You need to replace Vista with XP.
To do this, boot from the CD and follow the instructions.
Good luck.

Newer laptops have SATA hard disks which the default win XP installation CD does not recognize as a device, and therefore cannot use the hard disk, so you can't install XP.
What you can do is make your own XP install disk by using the original one and the driver files for the sata drive, making an XP install disk that can detect your hard drive during setup so you can install XP normally.
You might want to google for the specific notebook you have and XP install procedures, but here is a how-to of the above procedure I just googled:
http://www.lazydesis.com/help-section-tutorials/19254-embedding-sata-drivers-xp-installation.html
I've done the procedure myself once but I can't remember which of the google results I ended up following. Good luck :p

I had this same problem with my fathers newest PC .... and Znurre and Mira are both correct.
You need a copy of XP which INCLUDES SP2 .............. SP2 has all the windows drivers for sata driven components. It is somewhat frustrating, but an older copy of XP will NOT work. It MUST contain SP2.
I hope this helps you, if all else fails, you can do what I did which is to use an older version of XP and "slipstream" SP2 into it, making it a bootable disk with SP2. It isn't hard to do, just not many know about this "lil problem" with Vista.

I know about this already, it only changes the keyboard language, I think I need to do what everyone above told me, reinstall the system because the system files are written in polish, everytime I install something the default is polish.
I tried to boot from the old XP CD but yeah was missing the drivers, it should work with the SP2 CD, anyway thanks everyone, im downloading (illegaly ftw) SP2. I'll see how it goes from there.
Thanks

When I installed Windows Vista at my HP mini-note I got a warning during installation that the language I selected now could never be changed unless I reinstalled.
(My HP mini-note uses Ubuntu 8.10 now, btw :D)

Yeah unfortuntely you can only change the language on the Vista Ultimate & Enterprise versions.
I'd go for Windows 7 over XP, even though the current beta does expire in August.

Uh?
You have to burn the cd, then put it in the cd-rom device, then go to the bios and tell the pc that you want to boot from the cdrom device BEFORE that from the HDD, then let it run, the instalation will start.
If you are doing that:
Then:
1) The copy its bad, has somekind of protection, from filesystem...
2) Start RAGING; it usually works.

High quality stuff.
Only very professional people doesnt care to fix bugs (feature for windoze devz) that has been addressed twelve times and has example code spread over the entire universe because they cant waste their time in such basic stuff
