The life progress bar cannot display negative values.
So, when you have 37 hp and get a hit for 40 damage your HP will reach 0, and you die, but to the game your HP will be negative.

However, if you manage to get hit so your HP lands exactly on 0 it won't be negative, so you will survive.

bug????No, it's called server lag.
Since, judging by your picture you managed to pass the river with a big marginal.

My theory is the following:

You started running trough the water and the client showed the O2 meter and started to count down...
Then, came one of these lovely lag spikes we have nowadays which made the server not calculate your position, but instead you got a big warp in the end?

During this time the client did not stop calculating the time you had been underwater, so when you got teleported to the grass you were dead to the client, that displayed you this message - but the server did not have any such information and this created a desync...
